  • Going back 75 years Alabama has won two national championships without winning their conference. Ohio State has won one. Rest easy. That 2-1 margin will not grow this year.
When did Ohio State win a national title without winning the B10?

I do know that going back 10 years, Alabama has won 2 NCs without winning their own division, Alabama has always played in the title game/CFP when winning their conference and that Ohio State hasn't made the CFP 2 years running when winning their conference.

        • Well, the year they got in they played 4 top 8 teams, 3 on the road. They were 3-1 losing only to Penn State in a fluky game. No one has played a harder set of 4 games in the CFP Era. No one. AND Penn State had 2 losses, including a 49-10 loss. It really wasn't Ohio State name value that got them in.

I don't necessarily object to OSU being left out in 2015, but I do object to Iowa AND Stanford being ranked above them. That certainly isn't privilege. Privileged them right out of the Rose Bowl. I do object Georgia being ranked ahead of them last year.

WRT Alabama, the SEC will always get the benefit of the doubt, but as a factual matter, they've just been assbackwards lucky in a couple years to even play for a national title. The Nick has certainly capitalized on his good fortune, but it's not hard to imagine UAT not playing for 2 (and arguably 3) of the NCs he won.

          • -The Buckeye schedule was good that year, no doubt. They still got in without winning the BigTen.

-Re: 2015. Maybe you have a point about Iowa and Stanford. Not about to dive into a rabbit hole of trying to look at why Iowa got the nod over the Bucknuts.

-Re: last year. Not sure the rankings mattered outside the top 4. You got the Rose and Georgia got the Sugar. It was academic. Georgia was the hot new flavor and Bama yanked the carpet out from under them in a game they should have won. They had some media supporters (Herbie and a few others).

-Bama lucky? Well, if by that you mean teams ranked higher inexplicably losing and opening the door? Yeah, I have to agree with that.

            • As a quick FYI, the internet and message boards are premised, entirely, on esoteric, academic debates of absolutely no consequence. If you're going to start taking issue with points on that basis, then what are we doing here. I ask you, WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE???!@?@?

                  • Kedon Slovis' last three games at USC: 95-121, 1353 yards, 12 TDs, 1 INT. Given the injuries USC's had, the Trojans have done remarkably well to finish 8-4, and they've found themselves a hell of a freshman QB. This might be the best job Clay Helton's done at USC, and if USC blogs are to be believed, he's still probably going to be fired. If that does happen, I can't see Helton being unemployed for very long.

                    • Akron finishes the season winless for the first time since WWII. Akron's maybe invested more in their football program than any other MAC program over the past decade and has pretty much squandered it. They jumped the gun firing Terry Bowden.

                              • It's the second time an Ole Miss player has done that exact celebration in the Egg Bowl during Matt Luke's tenure-- D.K. Metcalf did that two years ago. This year's version provided a much funnier ending.
