You gotta be shitting me. My PTI ratings had 2 blowouts for tonight, I didn't even tune in!

    • Well, you're getting one blowout, at least. Cal 30, WSU 3, midway through the fourth. I'd love to see the record for sacks against a Mike Leach offense. Cal's either set that mark tonight, or they're very close to setting it...

      ...And make that 37-3.

      • Syracuse controlled the game, too. They moved the ball really well. They had a two-play sequence in the first half that kept the game close -- a TD pass was called back on an offensive pass interference -- close call, IMO. On the next play Syracuse ran the ball, fumbled and it was returned for a TD. Instead of 21-7, it was 14-14.

McCann's point here is that yesterday the NCAA accepted UNC's argument that they play no role in supervising academics.

          • If you can't punish renegade programs like UNC for a decades long systematic fraud that they were caught red handed multiple times, then why even have the organization?

            • If you could have proven that the genesis of the easy African-American studies coursework was to serve the athletes, then the NCAA could have done something to UNC. It doesn't appear like that was the case; rather, it was just some bullshit courses that Af-Am profs threw out there to fill a catalog 20 years ago.

Auburn did the same with some no-show sociology courses.

I absolutely agree that NCAA has no business trying to determine academic rigor of coursework. I do not think it should be part of their scope. Did UNC skate? Yeah. It's a shame, but I would rather that happen than expand the NCAA's authority.

Because players don't have to wait to declare for the NBA, basketball schools have been playing lose and fast with appropriate course progression toward a degree for 'one and dones' and 'two and dones' for a while now, and not just UNC. Taking PE-type electives mixed with a couple of 'survey' classes has been done for a LOOONG time. You can do that for a while until you are put on warning and a counselor mandates specific coursework, By that time, you're leaving, anyway.

              • I guess you can rationalize it that way, the thing is they were caught with this and they continued the BS practice. That is lack of control, if you can't punish that then disband. It is an outage that they got away with it, not surprising but Coastal Carolina better watch their ass. It really cheezes me off is that sleazy fraud Roy Williams benefitted from this absurd practice.

                • It is a class that UNC has certified and offers to the entire student body. No matter how bullshitty the coursework is, the NCAA is not (and should not be) allowed to punish a school because they have some ridiculously easy classes (Arizona State offers college credit for being in a drum circle, for example).

But fine, I don't have a dog in this fight. Have the NCAA punish UNC and make the Af-Am profs cancel the easy classes so the athletes can go back to being PE majors and taking Bowling 101, Weightlifting, and Survey of Rap Music.

                  • If the NCAA can't punish for this, then they should abandon all academic eligibility issues.

                      • LSU deserves to get spanked every game with the way they number that field. It is always ridiculous.

                        • Miami is the early season horseshoe-shitting team. Should have lost 2 in a row and are somehow still undefeated.

                          • Army is 5-2 on the season after a 28-27 win over Eastern Michigan. Army did not complete a pass against EMU, and this is the third time in seven games the Black Knights finished with 0 passing yards. They have won two of those three games.

                            • So, teams that only run the ball can do well? I guess so. I'll say that teams that run the option (Army, Navy and GT - who came close to beating #11 Miami today) scheme for minimum passing and it appears in Army's case, no passing.

I don't think Michigan is in that boat if you are implying that and I don't think you are.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                              • GaTech did come close but should have never really been in the game. Yes, they got up by 11 mainly because of a long return for a TD and some other voodoo, but they could not move the ball against Miami.
