I really enjoyed the Div II and III playoffs this past year. ... More than the bowls.

Like you said, its like dealing with Texas writ large. Its not enough that they have natural advantages in population and locale, but they want to tilt the contest in their favor via the boardroom too. You're beat before you even take the field.

Then there are SEC coaches saying it a good rule because otherwise their staff has to spend more time away from their families to compete. I mean...that takes some cojones.

NCAA football is a joke, and I am pretty much done watching it outside of Nebraska-related contests.

3 months is plenty of time for the story to become old news.

The 3 months isn't even the timing for handing over the info requested. They have 3 months to just acknowledge that they've received the request. Processing comes after that.

Saw this on twitter from a writer for TSN and thought, hey, it's the offseason! So, I think it's pretty clear that Alabama and Ohio State are currently atop the CFB landscape, in that order, and that #3 is many furlongs back. So, what programs are #3-10? Where are the tier breaks? If you can't accept the premise of 1 and 2, then who are your top programs if you exclude Alabama and OSU?

So, for me I'm looking at sort of a 5 year window with maybe a 2 year look back and 3 year look ahead.

3. Florida State
4. Clemson

So, I think these two programs are a cut above the next tier. They are both recruiting really well. They've had national success. They play in a conference that fosters continued success.

5. Notre Dame
6. LSU
7. Oklahoma
8. Oregon
9. Michigan State

I like where ND is going under Kelly. They're finally getting legitimately talented. LSU has gads of talent and poop for an offense. OU be OU. And I had to force myself to put MSU in this group because I'm tired of underselling them -- their past 3 seasons merit top 4 or 5, but I'm still a little wishy-washy on whether they can maintain. I'm actually in the same boat with Oregon and Helferich. I also think there's a good case to put Stanford in this group on par or ahead of MSU.

9. Michigan
10. USC
11. Florida

This is the name-brand "potential" group. I'll give M a slight edge with HARBAUGH!!! over USC and Florida. This is certainly a future results group, not a recent past group. I could make the argument for Georgia in this group, too.

Some interesting teams that I don't think come close -- Texas, Texas A&M, Penn State, Miami, Virginia Tech and Auburn.

I wouldn't put ND up that high.

Brian Kelly's record: 8-5, 8-5, 12-1, 9-4, 8-5, 10-3. And it's really hard for me to find a signature victory in there. Kelly has never had the superstar QB that defined his tenures at Central Michigan and Cincinnati. It makes me wonder if he's really that good a coach or if he is just a guy who benefitted from early adoption of the spread.

Yeah, ND was definitely the team I knew I was probably "over-rating" -- but then I thought about who I'd put ahead of them -- and I like ND better than the others in that group -- all have flaws.

I think distance between 4 and 5 is wider than it is between 2 and 3.

I also think that Oregon is due to plummet off of that list, although they belong on there for recent history reasons. There are some big cracks showing in the foundation there.

Agreed. I think they are very similar to MSU in that they seem unlikely replicate their recent past successes. For Oregon, though, I like their division, system and ability to win a lot of games with top 25-ish level talent -- provided they have a QB. I don't like their coaching. For MSU, I like their coaching a ton, but I think they're in a tough division and I'm not sure their "system" talent can get enough wins.

Georgia should be on there at least with Michigan, USC, Florida. Maybe this season Georgia and Michigan show they belong on the list or even higher... MSU should drop, not sure how far they will but they will. Agree with others ND is a bit too high though imo in the correct tier...

I don't follow the Pac 12 all that closely but 1 Pac 12 school should separate itself from the Pac, whether that be USC, Oregon, Stanford. Oregon doesn't seem to be as strong as they've been and could fall a tier, the tier with Florida, USC and Michigan; which is where Stanford belongs for now too. 3 Pac all in that tier, beating up each other? In the short term, that is possible but eventually one program should separate themselves from the others.
