  • Nah. They're ranked about 6th or 7th in the B1G. About right.

I get the caution but this is as much a sure bet as there is. MSU should open a 17 point favorite.
      That's the right word caution.

      • If Cook doesn't play vs PSU, I think it's very likely that the game is competitive.
        PSU has a decent defense.

Another head coach position is open, Iowa State. Not that they are a national threat ever. Last time they had a coach with a winning % way over .500 was right after WWI.
They do randomly beat Iowa from time to time...

You want Nebraska to beat Iowa. Can you imagine them going up against a team with athletes on the outside?? No way you want them in the playoff...

Miles would be an abject failure in the BIG. His only success has been at schools that turn a blind eye to his dirty recruiting, as so he can out-talent most opponents. He wouldn't be buyin' and oversignin' in our league.

            • Agree with Hoss. Like Saban he is now comfortable in a culture where the end justifies all and players are just a commodity. He has to stay in the south..

              • Iowa (assuming as a 4 seed) in the College Football Playoffs vs Clemson (still the 1 seed) would be such a contrast in style.
To give Iowa credit, I think their secondary is good. They returned 7 of their top 8 DBs from last season (according to SB Nation) and have a great play maker at CB in Desmond King.

I'd pick Clemson 31-20 still. I hope Iowa somehow wins out. Go B10, except for OSU!

                • Maybe Les Miles to Texas?

                  • PSU wasn't near as good as expected and I didn't think they were that good. They handled Indiana, Illini and Maryland.

                    • Wow I didn't realize LSU people were serious about getting rid of Miles.
I just read an article saying Miles has a $15 million buyout, but the TAF (major LSU boosters) don't care about that and want to target Jimbo Fisher, Dabo Sweeney, Jon Gruden, or Gary Patterson.

I would love to see LSU get rid of Miles then have all these top names turn them down.
                      Please happen.

                      • Well, they won't get Jon Gruden. He's been rumored to be a candidate for MANY college jobs, and he's turned all of them aside. He has a sweetheart deal with ESPN.

I doubt that Jimbo Fisher would leave FSU. He's the big kahuna in the ACC, (well, except for this year) and he won't be in the SEC West.

Patterson seems to like where he is, and Sweeney seems to be just getting started at Clemson.

Miles and his staff could hit LSU for a ton of money (his staff has buyouts too) and like you said, .. and LSU would end up settling for a Rodriguez/Hoke type.

They could end up at someplace like Texas, .. and laugh all the way to the bank.

                        • LSU is an ELITE job, talent in Louisiana is ELITE probably up there with Georgia/Ohio as a close #4 behind the big 3 of Cali, Texas, Florida. Only program in the state and kids in the deep south (I'd call Bama, Mississippi, Louisiana), DON'T leave state for whatever reason. LSU is an easy place to go 8-4 even in a bad year.

                          • The Spartans/PSU game is off the board. Must be waiting for the Cook injury update obviously.

                            • There is now a top story on ESPN saying "Sources: Miles likely out at LSU."

Yup, I hope more than anything that they are stuck with a Brady Hoke.
Interesting though that Miami, LSU, and USC are looking for head coaches. Looking at supply/ demand, there is going to be so much demand, but limited supply for elite coaches their fan bases expect.
