  • I don't see any way that MSU can get into the Final Four...this was a devastating loss as was Oklahoma's loss to Texas. Of course Bama is forgiven for Ole Piss because they play in the God-like SEC...but that's another discussion. MSU can win the B1G and I give them a decent shot at beating tOSU if they can patch up that secondary a bit...
    Shut the fuck up Donny!

    • With MSU's secondary in trouble, I wonder how well, JTB (who I assume is going to start but will be rusty) is going to be able to advantage osu v. this weakness?

I'm also not sure how well osu is going to be able to run their IZ/OZ plays v. MSU's still decent run stopping capacity. You take that away from urbz and throw in some timing issues in the passing game for JTB and you just might ..... and I emphasize MIGHT ..... have upset potential.

I still think osu wins this one but, Dantonio isn't going to make it easy. He'll have a turd or two in his pocket to pull out. You can bet on that...... and I mean that as a compliment to ol' fart face.
I dunno. Ohio State's offense hasn't had much trouble running the ball on MSU the last two times they played. They lost in 2013 in large part because they had a hard time passing the ball. I don't think OSU has a great WR corps this year, but MSU's secondary is just not good. If JTB plays I expect OSU to move the ball well.

I'm more concerned about Connor Cook.

Pac-12 Power Rankings: Rich Rodriguez may not be long for Arizona
        Dan Greenspan Nov 09 2015, 11:02AM
Rich Rodriguez is not a happy man. He let loose a string of expletives entering the locker room after Arizona lost 38-30 at USC on Saturday night, fulfilled his media obligations with a terse press conference that lasted 97 seconds, and launched another bitter and sarcastic objection to the string of late-night road games his team has played this season as he left.

He looks like a coach consumed by frustration with his team's season undone by injuries and inconsistency and needing a split from its last two games just to reach a bottom-tier bowl game. He looks like a man who has come to the realization that Arizona is the third-best program in the Pac-12 South if everything is going right. He looks like a man that might not be long for Tucson.

Rodriguez has already been suggested as a candidate for several programs with head-coaching vacancies, notably Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and Miami. There are plenty of logical connections, personal and professional, to many of those jobs. He worked with Hokies athletic director Whit Babcock at West Virginia, in the Palmetto State as offensive coordinator at Clemson, and has plenty of experience recruiting in Florida.

Why would Rodriguez leave Arizona? After all, he went to the Pac-12 title game and Fiesta Bowl last season. The reality is Rodriguez capitalized on an unbelievably slim margin for error to make it happen. Only late-game meltdowns by USC against Arizona State and Utah, and a UCLA no-show against Stanford provided Arizona an opportunity to win the division.

Even as the Trojans’ seemingly never-ending chaos has overlapped with Rodriguez’s four-year tenure in the desert, he is 1-7 against the Los Angeles schools, twice losing to USC interim coaches in the last three seasons.

Arizona is never going to have enough quality players to consistently beat USC and UCLA. The Trojans didn’t need to load the box to stop the run, allowing 60 yards rushing largely on the strength of their linebackers and defensive line. Not having top running back Nick Wilson for the second straight game because of a knee injury certainly didn’t help matters.

The loss of All-America linebacker Scooby Wright this season exposed an Arizona defense that's been woefully overmatched. USC freshman running back Ronald Jones II simply ran through Arizona, even on plays defensive back Tellas Jones said the defense knew were coming.

Guile, scheme, and player development can only take a program so far.

If you can’t defeat the two schools with the best recruiting base, better tradition, more glamour, and more money when they are rebuilding, what chance do you have when USC and UCLA are performing at their best? That is the question that could drive Rodriguez out of Arizona.

From an OSU perspective, the harder game is the road game. I'd feel really good about play either team in Columbus.
They need more of those 2* players in the secondary...you know, the ones that became 1st round picks. The loss of Nardo is much bigger than anyone is saying.

            • Eh, well, "Nardo" was there last year and managed to hold Ohio State to 49 points. Fortunately, Michigan State was +2 in turnovers so they stayed in the game a bit.

                Don't mess with the narrative.

                • Well, even Alabama gave up a ton last year to the Bucks. They are in another league when clicking on all...but hasn't done it enough so far this year. Narduzzi wasn't perfect but he could coach up defensive players. Fact.

                    • They have 3 starters out. They are playing true freshman in the secondary, that counts for something. Saturday they had to play Monty Madaris at corner. Narduzzi was a great coach but he would have had the same issues, that's a problem that will not go away this year. Health is an issue, it's been an issue all year. In fact the coaching have done a good job, it took 9 games for that shoe to drop.

Yeah, man, Narduzzi was legit, but Dantonio is pretty good, too. In a former life he was, you know, a DC for Coach Tressel.

Narduzzi had one great defense when he managed to end up with a fantastic secondary against the odds. That was the only season his defenses at MSU gave up less than 200 points in a season. By comparison, Tressel's last SIX Ohio State teams gave up fewer than 200 points in their respective seasons.

                        • I will agree with that. The coaching has been alright but wasn't so much the last game.

                          • The Monty Madaris thing really lays it bare. I mean, he's a WR. And he's not some sort of uber-talented athlete that can play anywhere. He's not good enough to crack the starting WRs and on the defensive side of things it's all f'n hands on deck, so, yeah ... you, Madaris ... cover that guy...

That's bad news. A bad cover guy will undermine your entire defense -- assuming you're playing a team capable of implementing the forward pass with some competency.
