    • And a 'bad' season in that time was 8-4.

      • Remember though, it was ultimately Carr's lack of success vs Tressel and in his later bowl games that cost him his job.

Those bowl losses were all awful... either completely embarrassed (vs USC) or a heartbreaking loss (vs Texas, Nebraska).
Dat Nebraska loss still pisses me off when I think about it because of how TERRIBLE those refs were.

        • USC and Texas teams were top 5 teams, losses I felt M lost to a more talented team.

          • Re the historic version of "The Victors": In 1963 we inherited an ancient player piano with several beat up old piano rolls. The thing barely worked and required intense pedaling. But it included that piano version of "The Victors" and I played it all the time until the piano essentially died. It was and is a fabulous version.

And I believe that something has happened with the MMB in recent years. In the "old days" the band sound was much more dominant, I would get goose bumps when the announcer shouted: "Band Take the Field!!"and they then launched into that march down the field to the most stirring fight song ever written. (and "Varsity" is a close second) I'll cherish that thrill to my dying day!

I have a CD that carries good versions of those fight songs.

            • Doc - I'd agree with you. The band just seems to be 'soft' these days, even during the halftime performances. 20+ years ago as a student, the band was loud, dramatic and awesome. Perhaps some of that has to do with not sitting in the student section, but I don't think so. They just don't play with the volume that they used to.

I was at the game today and thought the same thing again about the band. However, I loved that they have toned down the RAWK music to a bare minimum and are using the band more.

              • Alabama players don't get annoyed because of how predictable Nick Saban is?
Obviously when they are losing, Saban turns into Brady Hoke and starts positively clapping.
Whenever they are winning, Saban yells at them.

That would annoy me just based on predictable behavior.

                  • I don't think any team improved from week one to week three more than Stanford has. I would never have believed the team that looked like death warmed over on offense against Northwestern would hang 41 on USC in the Coliseum.

                    • Ole Miss 43, Alabama 37. Seven years ago, Nick Saban was leading Alabama to the first of quite a few #1 rankings during his tenure, and Hugh Freeze was in his first year as a collegiate head coach-- at NAIA Lambuth College. Freeze has now beaten Saban two years in a row. Freeze may have procured this victory by means of a voodoo curse-- it certainly felt that way at times-- but hey, whatever works.

                      • Yeah, it was surprising how some of the top ten played. osu, UA, USC and UCLA all played below their rankings with two upsets (UA and USC) that will knock those two teams out of the top 10.

I did watch some of the ND game. Kelley has done a good job after losing Zaire. Very good D, in fact really good. It's really hard to stop Paul Johnson's offenses and ND did a good job of that.

Georgia played really well. Great QB'ing (wish Jake had that kind of accuracy and UGA and M play very similar offenses), power run game with a back that has great top end speed (Ahh, if only Smith had that) and a good defense. They just dominated.

Didn't see LSU but Fournette just became the leading Heisman candidate. Also, love to see Auburn get crushed.

                        Anyway ..... CFB is fun.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                        • College football remains the best spectator sport in the country, IMO.

Just when you think you've got everything figured out, they turn into college kids again, and "mess" everything up.

All kinds of goofy things happened yesterday.

                          • Any day where USC and bammy lose, tOSu embarrasses themselves, and Michigan wins is a good day in college football.

It's also funny to see Brett Beilma keep eating crow.

                            • All those were good.

Even the mighty Spartans didn't "bury" the Air Force guys as badly as some thought they would. Maybe Connor Cook puts his socks on one at a time like everyone else?

Central Michigan went into the Carrier Dome and took Syracuse into OT. Not bad, Chips.

                              • Ole Mi$$ and Stanford were very impressive, and Fournette? The dude is an absolute beast. LSU has a stable of 5 backs that all could start in our shitshow backfield.
