  • I like this idea. Delaney is proposing to make Freshman ineligible. The plan involves allowing Freshman to practice and work-out with team but play and travel would be restricted. 4 years of eligibility remains so, a player getting a degree would be in school for 5 years. Scholarships move to 92 from 85.

The first year accommodates student athletes not yet ready for college level work. Not surprisingly, SEC commissioner, Mike Slive, is strongly opposed. Bowlsby of the Big Twelve is for it as a starting point for discussions. PAC 10 commissioner supports it.

Delaney has launched a number of initiatives to compensate for the recruiting advantages that SEC teams have .... level the playing field so to speak. I would add that MSU's resurgence under Dantonio and ufm's work at osu have definitely elevated the BIG's national profile. PSU and Michigan, rising from the ashes of their separate debacles, should help advance national dialogue about the BIG.

Delaney makes a point that he won't go with this proposal alone ..... making it highly unlikely it will become an NCAA rule.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

I think they did, but their process was flawed. They ran their ratings like a traditional poll for the first ten weeks or whatever, until they got to the end and discovered that in doing it that way, they'd painted themselves into a corner where their Top 4 didn't match who they thought the best four teams were.

Hopefully it was a learning experience and it'll go better this year.

      • Conference championships were (rightly) weighted heavily by the selection committee. The issue is the winner of the P5 conference championships received a big boost after the last week. Ohio State also received a major boost by crushing what was thought to be an awfully good Wisconsin team.

Big XII will continue to be at a disadvantage to the teams that play a conference championship game.

          • 13 games > 12

Plus beating a P5 division champ on the last week of the season > beating Kansas, Texas Tech or whoever.

            • Ohio State had 99,000+ at their spring game.... whereas Purdue was under 10,000 (no official numbers, but likely that) and the best video of the game came from a camcorder.

Purdue football should be in the MAC

                  • Purdue is the #3 football program in a small state that also has a professional football team with a strong following.

Yup, a great Purdue team overall.

Still in 2004, Purdue was ranked #5 overall (& undefeated)... Then choked vs #10 Wisconsin at home... Ended up losing 4 regular season games by 10 points combined.

I was at that 2004 Michigan @ Purdue game, but rooting for Michigan as a 13 year old... Back in the day when getting tickets for a Purdue football game was hard to get.

If Orton didn't fumble, the program might be better today assuming that season wouldn't have gone that bad after. (Who knows)

                            • We are generally in Columbus the weekend of the spring game, there is an Irish Dance competition(The Buckeye State Feis) on the same weekend normally. For whatever reason it is this upcoming weekend instead. I could never get over how many people are in there for a meaningless game. High street is just a flood of people.

No to freshman ineligibility unless every conference is in on it. That is the biggest and latest WTF idea from Delaney.

                              • I went to the spring game last year and stayed for one quarter. It's an excuse to have a big party when the weather's nice. That's about it. We've been fortunate the past two years to have beautiful days.
