      • The Big 12 Conference would like to move quickly if Missouri choses to leave the conference, Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione said Saturday.

Joe Castiglione: Big 12 to act quickly

"West Virginia has better football than Missouri, better basketball than Missouri, a better budget than Missouri and more passion among its fans than Missouri. They're better, anyway you turn 'em. The travel's not good but that's it."

            • I agree about Missouri. I could never figure out why anyone thought the B1G wanted them. They seem like another Illinois--decent enough every once in a while, but never a serious player nationally.

              • They would have made an ideal companion for an ND addition.

                • Almost any team would have made an ideal ND addition. Missouri is no better than at least 10 other schools out there.

                  • They are a lot better than almost every other candidate that was mentioned with a straight face.

                    • Lots of positives for Missouri:

*Already have rivalry with Illinois and potential rivalries with Nebraska & Iowa...
                      *Great fit geographically...
                      *They are AAU...
*Good enough athletically to be in top half of conference in the sports that matter (football, basketball)...
*Adds to footprint in a populous state.

Negatives are they take more cash than they add. They don't pay their 'share' while splitting the pie further and add little 'national' following. As such, they are only a complimentary addition along with a ND. In my view the B10 prefers expansion eastward (Maryland, Rutgers) rather than westward.

                      • Much of this is way beyond me, but wouldn't it make sense to poach Syracuse?

                        • Ku was chosen over MU when the orange bowl was selecting a team to play VT. kU lost to MU, but KU would guarantee ticket sales... mU would not.

                          That tells you everything...

                            • Syracuse is a private school with a shrinking fanbase, despite their efforts to sell themselves as "NYC's team".

                              • Missouri has had a 5-year run of football relevance. Before 2006, they only had 2 seasons of 8 wins in 24 years, and none with more than 8 wins.

I guess if you assume their recent success will be long lasting they could have been a decent football addition, but I suspect their recent run of success has more to do with getting some excellent QB play over the past 4 years that isn't likely to continue. Much like Purdue when they had Brees.

I could be wrong, as I watch almost no Missouri football. Perhaps our Nebraska friends can clue me in.
