The Fox broadcasts blew. And I'm in complete agreement with CGVT on Gus Johnson.
FOX's college football broadcasts have always been terrible, regardless of who is announcing.
Way over produced. They cut away from almost every play too quickly to show the crowd or the band to try to show the excitement. They have missed fumbles in their hurry to show some drunk student mugging for the camera.
It is better than it was, but is still terrible.
I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on
I remember one of the first times I heard him, before I even knew of him. I turned on some crappy NFL game where nothing was really happening and I remember thinking "Why the fuck is this guy yelling? There is nothing going on"
Later I realized that was my first experience with the suckatude that is Screamin' Gus Johnson.

I actually think it's underproduced. It is kind of a bare bones operation, but you are right with the cutaways. Every other sport Fox does uses the same template but nobody has ever given the template to college football.
Yeah I don't know if they don't have enough cameras or they just aren't pointing them to the right spots but they never seem to have good angles or utilize replays very well.
The MSU game was a perfect example why Gus sucks. Shelton clearly fumbles at the goal line but he's doing his shtick going bananas and doesn't say anything, then he's still saying TD when the ref is standing right there signaling touchback. Then there's several seconds of silence then the color guy is the one that finally says they are calling it a touchback.
From their angle (Gus/Klatt) and the tv audience it looked like a TD. I even hit pause to walk the dog thinking it was a TD. When I came back I wasn't sure what happened, Touch-back? FOX didn't even have the correct angle from the other side that you could see he fumbled. So yea that part sucked, Joel Klatt was talking about the (not) TD but sounded like he was distracted.
I like Gus Johnson but that was awful. It was inexcusable, the spotter and producer have to catch that if Gus doesn't. Another thing the Fox producers missed was the LJ Scott fumbling issue that has been an issue for three years and the same thing happened 3 weeks ago. A good production crew instantly shows the Bowling Green fumble.
I like him calling early round NCAA games or Fox NFL when it's the 4th broadcast team. He's not serious enough to be the lead broadcaster for any network.
Well, you have to ask what are the odds of your starting QB going down? Probably not insubstantial and the odds probably increase for dual threat guys that a team might build their O around.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
