  • WM... yes and no.

yes: I miss going to Manhattan and Lawrence. They were easy drives for me and I always had a great time at those games and in those towns. I miss the rivalry Neb had with OU (I know the Big12 diminished it, but the feelings were still there). I miss knowing what to expect form teams and seeing the familiar.

no: I don't miss Texas politics.. I don't miss the constant feeling that the conference could implode. I don't miss a puppets like Beebe... I don't miss schools without backbone.. I don't miss going through the rumors and wondering if my school will have a solid home.. I don't miss Missouri fans (though I think Iowa is going to be an adequate replacement)..

The best thing UNL has done for itself was join the BIG. I am forever grateful to Delaney and the school presidents for inviting UNL. The BIG will have a significant impact on UNL athletics, but more importantly, academics. Nothing will be perfect, but I feel culturally, UNL is in a better place. So I do pay attention to the Big12, but it is more like watching the Jerry Springer show... not something you really envy, but you enjoy the drama.

Forget about the money. That network has to be squashed before it ever achieves critical mass with its subscriber base. Nobody is going to call their TV provider demanding to see women's volleyball.

Just out of curiosity, where can you actually get the Longhorn Network now? Is it on Dish or DirecTV? How many people got to see that game against Rice?
I don't believe DirectTV, Dish, Time-Warner, or any other big national cable provider has bought in yet. Just some local Texas-only cable providers. Last I had heard, not a single person in the Houston area had it.

      • Hotseat update:

Looks like Ron Zook is going to escape for at least another year.
Neuheisel will be lucky to last the season.
Fickell has to be a name on there now with his interim status.
I think that Mark Richt will be gone at the end of this year too.
        And probably Mike Stoops.
And after last night, I think a new name needs to be added -- Tom O'brien. First the Russell Wilson fiasco. Then, -26 rushing yards against Cincinnati. Yes, that is a "minus" sign in front of the 26.

        • I'd add Turner Gill at KU. He might get another year, but his seat is getting warm. The big12 is pretty good this year and I don't see them beating anyone.

I forgot to mention that my "ESPN guy" said one big consideration for UT going to the PAC12 is they aren't too hot about dealing with the time-zone issues. They don't want to lose fans by playing 9pm/10pm night games. I guess this would affect basketball more than football.

                • Temple is humiliating Maryland right now, up 31-0 early in the 3rd quarter. Not doing it with turnovers either, just an old-fashioned whopping

                      • Indiana is getting absolutely embarrassed on the road at North freaking Texas 24-0. Disgraceful. Is there any way we can replace them with Ball State or Evansville? They aren't even good in hoops anymore either.
