Not all of them. Many sell their ticket allowance. I know that App State sold all of theirs and requested more, and Ohio sold all of theirs to last year's Camellia Bowl in Montgomery. I imagine the Bowls in Memphis do well too
App State sold all of theirs this year and there was a large crowd from Toledo
Troy will sell out for the Dollar General Bowl in Mobile. It is on a Friday night, so I'm not sure how well Ohio will travel.
The lesser bowls are a good thing for many of the smaller schools, if there is a reasonable travel distance and the don't play on weeknights (although App St is 10 hrs from Montgomery and Toledo is farther. They are definitely a good thing for the smaller cities that host them as the bring millions into the local economies.
Monday night, Central Michigan and Tulsa in Miami? Probably not so muchI feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

The lesser bowls placate the smaller schools to allow the bigger schools to do what they want. I would think a third round game in a college football playoff is definitely going to make more money than the Miami Beach Bowl, that isn't a real comparison. But it doesn't do much for CMU or Tulsa.

What they should do is start trying to schedule some of the lesser bowl games in some of the better high school stadiums in the country. Maybe between the two teams playing and locals who might be inclined to take in a lower tier bowl game they could sell the place out. Lots of logistical considerations I know but still...
Check out 1, 8, 10 and 15.

Minnesota and Washington State.
Can't see Wash State without thinking of Tom Tuttle from Tacoma...
