The Stadium is in a shitty location. We tailgated on the edge of a vast, asphalt parking lot where there was about 18 inches of dead grass in wilting August heat.

Once inside, there was absolutely no feel for a college game. It was nothing more than two big name teams, one of them not very good at all, playing football ...... NFL character. But, at the time, a lot of ADs, including DB - in fact, mostly Dave Brandon, were overtly pushing the "NFL Experience."

Well, that flopped big time and Diamond Dave got canned following the uproar about such antics and student protests out side his office saying such things as, "hey, Dave, this is college football, get it?"

Anyway, I think this kind of thing - playing in NFL venues - will continue because it means mega- $$$$ for all the suits involved.
Agree on the stadium; moreover, Dallas is a dusty Atlanta with worse traffic.

Went to the game-paid $250 a ticket. If I Remember right UM lost money on the game. Initially Brandass wasn't going to bring the band. Uproar was so great he "found" $400,000 to pay for the band. Tailgating in 100 degree heat. Only good thing I can say was you could buy alcohol (at a ridiculous price) to numb the pain of a total asswhipping.
Only other good thing was meeting Oracle.

      Never again

      • Dallas is just shitty. When Bama played Florda State in Jacksonville, you have sime beaches close, which is nice. In ATL, you are a close drive to the Appalachians. It's a nice drive north through Helen, up to the Great Smoky Mountains. Or a side trip to Augusta or Savannah, maybe.

Glendale is good due to Vegas.

        • Dallas and Houston are the only parts of Texas I've been too. Not exactly impressed. Though I liked Dallas better than Houston, which was just miserable in July.

          • Dallas has a very nice airport from what I remember.
Obviously the Cowboys' stadium and training facility are nice.

            • San Antonio and Austin are great towns. I would stay there and just drive to Dallas on gameday, but the traffic is so bad, it makes it a royal pain.

If so, count me out of any visit there ...

                • Yeah. It's horrible. Ft. Worth, Irving, Arlington, Dallas, Garland, Plano, etc, etc, etc, are all essentiall one big city. The roads are in poor condition, and way too few lanes for the traffic flows.

Yeah, I can vouch for Atlanta, where I live, having pretty good roads and traffic control. At least ATL tries and traffic can still be pretty bad at times.

Parts of I85, North and Southbond, the major artery leading into and out of the city of Atlanta, has a controlled access lane. At the height of the rush hour, it can cost $8 bucks to ride the couple of miles where the lane is available. I don't commute on a regular basis so, I use it when getting to the airport for 9am flights. It's nice but I couldn't afford that going in daily.

It was hugely controversial when it was planned and then opened. Haters called it the typical elitism of the white power base that runs Atlanta with its money from North Fulton County. That wasn't actually true as a 9 member Atlanta Transportation board (2 whites and 7 blacks) authorized it by a 9-0 vote.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

I was about to say the same about meeting you Stan. REALLY shows how truly awful it was. At least we were able to catch $13 beer day!

Just noticed this. It was Hoke, not RROD.

                        • Michigan and Hoke were coming off an 11-2 season capped by a big Sugar Bowl win. Most M fans I talked to were pretty confident pre game. Bama was able to get the lead and get M outta their game plan. Game was probably closer than the score indicates.

                          • No, the game score was right about where it should have been.

The previous season results were the anomaly.

                            • The entire game is on YouTube:
                              [ame]https://youtu.be/Quyc2BSmf-Q[/ame]

All I remember is Bama running all over Michigan with that great o-line.
                              DJ Fluker, Barrett Jones.
But yea, Fluker did admit to accepting money. The NCAA didn't care of course.

                              • What happened is exactly what I expected, M had nowhere near the talent level of Bama and it showed on the field. Scheduling that certain loss was a huge mistake.
