  • I'm confused. Jim didn't create the word "meritocracy."

Well, you obviously didn't attend Michigan.

Mike Dantonio for that matter too.

      • I'm just delighted that SOMEONE at Michigan thinks about meritocracy, as opposed to michiganmanitocracy or whatever it's been.

        • Obviously I meant using the term when it came to yanking the scholarship offer a week before signing day. But wiseacres knew that.

          • If we're talking about Swenson here he may have had his offer rescinded but we still don't know the whole story. Reasons for rescinding the offer are purely speculative.

If we're going on the rumors, let's say I'm awarded an academic scholarship or a grant based on the 4.0 GPA I maintain through my junior year. I've also built a great resume based on my community service. My senior year I get a bunch of Cs and get pulled over and sited for drinking under age. Can the U that extended the scholarship offer pull it? You bet they can and they do.

Again, based on the rumors, it seems Swenson might have behaved in a similar fashion with respect to things the football staff asked him to do which he apparently did not do. That being the case, maybe the staff felt strongly he didn't have the work ethic JH demands of his players and the offer was rescinded. That's the way it goes.

Seems things worked out fine for him and probably for the best for all parties.

            Hello from Tokyo.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

            • If the University knows of all the Cs for months and doesn't tell the student the academic scholarship is revoke until the 11th hour, well, that's just a dick move.

Very impressive diversity in this picture. Some of the white folks are wearing red, some of the other white folks are wearing blue and there are even some white folks wearing white. See if you can find the one white person wearing green!

                            • I was just trying to figure out what about whodean's post elicited a "fuck you" from Masspartan.

That seems to be his standard response to any whodean post, so there must be something more to it?
