  • RR had no success and Hoke's winning % was .60 ... Not even close to Richt.

It speaks to Richts' success there that people think like this when UGA failed to reach 10 wins in all but 2 of the 18 sessions before he went there.

      • UM fans should know intimately that even big name traditional programs cannot just roll out the red carpet and expect to compete at a high level.

Definitely true....but we tend to judge our programs by those around us, and in that measure Richt has unquestionably come up short. Georgia has seen four SEC programs and his former employer win national titles since he's been there- some of them multiple titles- and seen the perennial doormats from Mississippi surpass them in conference stature. I can understand why they want to make a move.

Whether this was the year for it...

              • My point is that Richt is NOT RR/Hoke bad. He's a Lloyd Carr level of good/competent. Just saying that it's a lot easier to win 9/10 games a year at UGA than it is at Maryland.

Also, comparing win totals from the pre-BCS/CCG era to now is not apples to apples. Teams routinely play 13-14 games a year with some FCS opponents thrown in.

                • Pre Saban, the East was considered to be the superior division.

                  • That was back in the Steve Spurrier days when Phil Fulmer had a good offensive coordinator. It hasn't been that way for a long time and in the non Urban years Georgia has had largely a cakewalk to get to the CCG. The SEC East sucks.

                    • Would Spartan fans rather beat Iowa and make it to the Play Offs only to gets massacred by Alabama or lose to Iowa and go to another good Bowl game and win their 5 bowl in row.

                      • I would pick Alabama over MSU, but I think they are much more ready to play a team like them in comparison to 2011 (I think?) ... that game when Julio Jones, Mark Ingram, and Bama DESTROYED MSU in their bowl game.

MSU is doing well in the trenches this season, has a better QB (who would be healthy by Jan 1), and overall have more talent than 4 years ago. They have proven they can win "the big game" too, unlike back then.

                        • Bama isn't that good people. MSU could hang with them any day of the week. The SEC wasn't your younger brother's SEC. Not good at all.

                          • UNC #10 going into last week. Gotta think that rightly ends their chances, barring CHAOS!!

                              • Not really, that's how you end up with a team like OSU sneaking in and winning it.
