  • I think they want Pete back. The backers did not like either Kiffin or Sark's style of offense.

    • Pete has his SB ring, the league has figured out Seattle's D, and the NFL salary cap will whittle down his tram. Not a bad time for Pete to head back to place he loves.

The kind that doesn't have like $6 million in talent? I imagine they were disappointed, yes.

        • They don't like being pass happy. They want smash mouth, they may be delusional as even the most smash mouth teams are pretty involved in the pass.

          • Correct that Hoke has never been a coordinator.

Tressel came from Youngstown State, not the MAC

              • Petey back at USC would be very bad.

                • Can Carroll go back to usc? Weren't some ncaa violations tied to him, which caused him to jump to the nfl?

                  • Well certainly he'll have to create new violations, but I think he's got a solid track record in that way.

                        • What a shitty year to be hiring a coach. Programs around the country are going to be taking lots of chances.

This year is a great demonstration, by the way, of why it does pay to fire your coach in the middle of the season if you know that he's not coming back. Virginia Tech and Central Florida got to start their searches early, and as a result, they snatched a couple of highly demanded guys before anyone else had a chance. Illinois and USC are stuck holding onto interim guys. Georgia may have gotten into the race too late and they may get stuck with a Derek Dooley/Brady Hoke caliber hire. That will probably happen with Rutgers. Tom Herman has had his one great year but it's really risky to hire a guy after only one year.

                          • Illinois is in a different situation than any other school. Their administration is a wreck, overall. They are looking for a new chancellor, new university president, new ad, and new football coach. On that list, football coach comes in dead last in terms of importance in hiring.

                            • Herman is, apparently, set to re-up with Houston. And why not? He can bide his time for the Texas job (or aTm job). He knows he's good enough to continue to win big at Houston so he's not going to devalue his resume. And UH is going to pay him well.

                              • Yeah if Herman drops out of the pool the search suddenly gets a little bit uglier for everyone. If you are Georgia, who do you go after? You missed your chance at a couple of the most obvious candidates. I don't know who else is left. Not only is there a shortage of good candidates to fill this year's openings, but it's looking like a few major jobs could come open next year too (Texas, A&M, Penn State, LSU?) if the chips fall the right way. Guys like Scott Frost and Tom Herman can hold out for their dream job. They don't need to take a Maryland or a Miami type job.

Somebody needs to go after Ken Niumatulolo though, seriously. A midrange program would be a perfect fit for him IMHO and would be really scary to play against.
