  • Looked at this weekends game and saw the effects of conference expansion...

The top teams are hardly playing each other and most of them aren't playing good programs in OOC either. With 14 teams in the ACC, SEC, B1G; it leaves a lot of teams with good records in the same league that won't play each other. It's the same issue in a 12-team league, though not quite as bad...

The B1G is going with a 9-game conference schedule which should help much like it does in the current Pac 12. With conference expansion there are more conferences than there were (they are now 6-to-7 team divisions), they are merely joined by a championship game.

    • There will be a big push for everyone to play 9 conference games once two or more leagues are doing it. The SEC will probably be the last holdout.

      • The Big12, Pac12, and Big10 will all be doing it next year

        • I'd rather see 4 decent non conference games. I don't care for the idea of a one game imbalance between home and road.

          • 9 conf games is a good thing. I'd be happy with 2 OOC and 10 C games. But you think thats game creep? 12 + conference title + 2 playoff = 15 games. Almost the reg season for pros. A lot different from when it was 'just' 11 games and a bowl.

            • For all but 10 teams in the country it'll be 12 games plus a bowl (if eligible) and only 2 teams will play 15 games.

I like the idea of as many conference games as possible since the non-con schedule has been reduced to glorified scrimmages for the most part.

              • I'd like to see 10 conference games and at least 1 competitive OOC opponent.

I don't remember you saying much about M going to Spartan Stadium 2 years in a row.

                  • That has nothing to do with my argument, I'm not sure why that is pertinent in your view.

My point is regarding the in season conference race. Having an imbalanced home/road can have an effect on the conference race every year going forward.

One year where you had to go to East Lansing is not that important. They would have beat that team in Ann Arbor last year pretty easily. And it is important to note that is the only time in the Michigan/Michigan State rivalry where they had to travel to East Lansing two years in a row. Remember, you guys love to trumpet the all time series record. But in the first 50 games between the two teams, the game was played in Ann Arbor 44 times and in East Lansing 6 times.

                        • Is the B1G going with the East getting 5 home games, 4 away games then next season 4 home, 5 away? Or are they going to have the amount of home games vary in the same division?

Believe the schedules are already out but I'm just too lazy at the moment to check.

                          • Missouri's Gary "Nat Turner" Pinkel reveals lymphoma diagnosis, to retire after season
Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel will retire at the end of the 2015 season due to health-related issues, the school announced Friday."I don't know how many years I have left, but I want to turn my focus to life outside of the daily grind of football," Pinkel said in a statement.Pinkel was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer of the blood, in May and received multiple treatments in May and June. Following doctor's assurances that his health would not affect his coaching duties, he decided to continue coaching the Tigers in 2015, but things changed after the Oct. 24 game against Vanderbilt."After we played Vanderbilt, I had a scheduled PET scan on Oct. 26 for reassessment, and then visited with my family and came to the decision on Oct. 27th that this would be my last year coaching," Pinkel said. "I still feel good physically, but I decided I that I want to focus my remaining years with my family and friends, and also have proper time to battle the disease and give full attention to that."The 63-year-old was instrumental in transforming Missouri into a nationally relevant program, taking over in 2000 and posting five conference divisional titles in his 15 years. The Tigers hadn't posted a 10-plus win season since 1960, and Pinkel accomplished that feat five different times. He will leave the Tigers as the winningest coach in school history, with the program in much better shape than when he debuted."Obviously I'm so appreciative to all of my coaches and athletes. Leaving them makes this decision so tough, but I do so feeling good that the Mizzou football program is in a better place than it was when we came in 15 years ago," said the Ohio native. "I feel that Mizzou is a great job at a great school and has so much going for it that they'll find an outstanding coach to move the program forward."Under Pinkel's guidance, Missouri became a factory for professional talent, with 32 Tigers being drafted into the NFL during his tenure. One of those players was Michael Sam, 2013 SEC co-Defensive Player of the Year. Sam shared his thoughts about his former coach via Twitter on Friday. @GaryPinkel thank you for everything you have done for me. You gave me a family that I so desperately needed and for that I am grateful.— Michael Sam (@MichaelSamNFL) November 13, 2015 The Tigers have three games remaining in the regular season and host BYU on Saturday.

All members of a division will have the same number of home games

                              • I just posted this information on the recruiting thread, but The B10 is the 3rd ranked conference in recruiting, but 4 of the top 12 classes belong to OSU,PSU,MSU, and UM. It is long past time to realign the divisions. In my rather lengthy life, I can count on my pecker the number of times that a non-big 4 team won a B10 title and actually played 2 of the 4. Both Wisconsin and Northwestern fall into that category recently, and Iowa is missing all 4 this year. Iowa has one game they have to win, the CCG and the teams in the East have several "must win" games.

As WM said above, with conference expansion, the best teams seldom play each other.
Plus, they are required to play away games in-conference at venues that make no economic sense. UM should never play at Purdue. OSU should never play at NW.
