    • Former 5-star TE Chris Clark will transfer to Syracuse football from UCLA
The 6-foot-6, 247-pound Clark was rated among the top tight ends in the 2015 class. Rivals.com and Scout.com slotted him first overall with 247Sports.com's composite rankings (2) and ESPN.com (4) not far behind.

      • It is a Thursday night, but Stanford's crowd is almost at Purdue's level.
3/4 of the stadium is empty.

        • Stanford = Vanderbilt = Northwestern but with more recent success

Of the Pac 12 I'm more concerned why an 'elite' program like USC can't bring in 80k when they have a 94k stadium, why Cal can't find 60k fans in northern California and Colorado, Washington State can't bring 35k to the gate.

If their television correlates with their attendance, I can't see the Pac 12 as being much healthier than the ACC or why anyone in the Big XII would've went to the Pac 12. At least the product on the field is better than their fan support, more than you can say for the ACC and B1G.

          • Is it just a West Coast thing?
Popularity of football isn't that big there overall compared to the south and some random programs scattered throughout the rest of the country maybe.

When I was is SD last week for example, all I saw was Pittsburgh Steelers jerseys. Then when the game was on, terrible towels/ Pittsburgh fans made up 50% of the stadium.

            • West of Texas, football isn't all that popular (relatively) except for the bandwagon USC fans when they are elite. Oregon has become huge in Northern California (obviously Oregon too which is growing) at the expense of Cal and Stanford who have been mediocre or worse for most of the past 15 years.

              • Cody I lived in SD for a few years and can attest to the general disinterest of all things sports. My first year out there the Chargers were coming off a 13 or 14 win season and their home opener was blacked out. The Q only holds about 60,000 people and they still had about 10,000 unsold tickets. Meanwhile the Lions sold out their entire season prior to the first game.

The Padres have a gorgeous downtown stadium that connects to the gaslamp dstrict and it's always 75% empty. I once ate at a sports bar about 100 yards from the ballpark during a Padres game and it was only being shown on one small TV in the corner out of probably 30 screens.

Anaheim and LA are no better. Saw the Red Wings, Blackhawks, and Flyers up there and it was always 1/3 visiting fans who made 80% of the noise.

Cali sports fans suck. In fact, they are a disgrace.

                • I'm not sure you need to qualify your conclusion with "sports fans".
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
                  Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

                      • San Diego is a beautiful city BTW... Or at least the parts I saw.
A lot of good restaurants like Richard Walker's Pancake House.

I just thought it was odd to be there 3 days and not see any Chargers fans.

                        • Think about it ......

Great weather, beautiful beaches, golf or ski December through early April. If you are an outdoor person, this isn't a place for "sports fans" to sit in a stadium and watch sports teams. I'd wager there are millions more of the former than the later in SD.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                          • Obviously growing up in Michigan, I see the pathetic sports fans out here. But Jeff is right. Way more to do out here than watch sports. Way. I'll never fit that demographic, but that's how it is. I don't know why it bothers midwesterners so much.

                            • Well there's plenty to do outdoors in the midwest too. Maybe it's just so easy and inviting on the west coast, and that kind of lifestyle takes on a momentum...

                              • I also didn't realize there were huge mountains close to SD. Beautiful area.

Wow anyone see Stanford WR Francis Owusu make "that catch" last night? Maybe best of the year.
I watched most of the first half as Barry Sanders Jr and McCaffrey dominated UCLA. McCaffrey looks incredible.
