    • University of Miami responds to the suspension of 8 players by the NCAA:

"This university has the highest standards in all of our academic and athletic endeavors. We will remain steadfast in our commitment to continue to build winning programs with the utmost of integrity. Now that the NCAA case involving current players has been resolved, the team can move forward toward focusing on the season while the investigation in other areas continues."

Cheese and rice. If it were the feds investigating instead of the NCAA, wouldn't that constitute perjury or at least obstruction of justice?

Players have been suspending from 1 to 6 games depending upon the amount of gratuties received. It remains to be seen what if any penalties the University will receive, none of which will be forthcoming this season in most likelyhood.

        • Wow, how embarassing.

BTW, since this mascot is supposedly a "fanatic of fluorescent lightbulbs", don't buy into the hype about the new compact flourescent bulbs (CFL). They suck. Not only do they give off a harsh light that can cause eyestrain, but they also trigger migraines in some people. Not only that, but they contain mercury, which is not a great thing to have in your home if/when a bulb breaks.

Since the damn goverment is banning incadescents, I've switched to halogens, which are FAR better than flourescents (though they run hot). CFL's are banned from my house. The whole prodedure of banning incadescent bulbs has been criminal, with almost no studies done on the harmful effets of flourescent lighting.

No, one player is missing six games, a couple are missing four, and another 5 (including Harris) were suspended for the season opener against Maryland. That's just the punishments handed down for current players

                    • With A&M lusting after the SEC and UT making all the rules in the Big 12. Every university in the Big 12 that isn't living off UT isn't happy with the conference and is looking at other conference; e.g. Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, etc...

The timing is really soon for these programs to be available and a potential seismic shift in conference alignments. If the Pac 12, SEC or B10 are interested in these programs, they'll have to act now. Pac 12 is far more likely imo to be interested in them, they have far fewer expansion candidates and thus are more likely to compromise and most of these schools are borderline for the CIC/B10's academic standards.

                        • Not the desired outcome you had hoped for DSL & Talent, the only player of significance to miss the OSU game is Ray Ray Armstrong. Provided Golden is NOT a moron like RR, I expect OSU to earn their first of many losses this season. The "Knights of Columbus" led by St. Luke are in for a rough ride.

Several key players (quarterback Jacory Harris, defensive tackle Marcus Forston, linebacker Sean Spence and receiver Travis Benjamin) will miss just one game. The 'Canes will be extremely short-handed for Monday's opener against Maryland (no small thing since it's an ACC game). However, all but safety Ray Ray Armstrong (four games), defensive lineman Oliver Vernon (six games) and backup tight end Dyron Dye (four games) will be back for the 'Canes' Sept. 17 clash with Ohio State.

                          • Interesting outcome ......

Seems that the NCAA/Miami was able to substantiate only minimum pay-outs to these guys from Shapirro. Harris, I heard got $140 bucks.

Bill King aptly pointed out on his radio show this AM, "if we were to name all the starting players in CFB who have gotten a $140 handshake from a booster, supporter, alum, whatever, and suspended them for that on this upcoming Saturday, we'd not have any CFB games."
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                            • Oklahoma has already asked the B10 along with 3 other universities (Oklahoma State, Missouri & one other unnamed school) and were told 'no' by the Big Ten...

I imagine they'll approach the Pac 12 with the same offer; OU, OSU, Texas Tech and someone else.

Correct. The players probably confirmed Shapiro's story, FWIW, which is probably not so good institutionally. But for the players, it's purely a question of how much they took. And, in that regard, unfortunately, selling your own stuff (or trading your own stuff) is treated in identical fashion to being outright given cash by a booster.

Miami will be at near full-strength. So, I don't expect Ohio State to win that game that early in the season. They've got some real talent -- especially up front. IMO, probably 3rd or 4th best team Ohio State will play all year.

Also correct re everyone does it.
