  • There's no probably -- FSU WOULD have played Bama.

TCU made the case for 8. Logistically, I think it's a nightmare for fanbases. But TCU planted the flag for it.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
    Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

    • I don't see why there would be a problem for fans. If the first round were played at home for the top ranked teams, it is just like any other home-away situation during the season.

      • I agree re home games, but they will NEVER agree to that. It will be bowl games. And that's the problem.

I'm serious about the Big Ten East, too. That thing is going to be a monster. It might actually be what Delaney envisioned.

Meanwhile, the Big Ten West is going to be a pillow fight. Goddamn.

          • I see msu flipping to the west in the near future, moving to 9 conference games and having a guaranteed divisional crossover game... MSU/mich, OSU/Wisky, and PSU/neb

Good idea ...... But, I think Delaney will work what he's got, which is really good in the East, for a while. Won't happen in 2017 TV negotiatins but might at some future point, after your four best teams start eliminating one another.

We really do need 9 conference games though. I'm all for dropping an OOC game for that.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

              • The belief has to be that a rising tide lifts all boats or something. Nebraska and Wisconsin ought to be able to build quality teams (they already do) simply because they offer a really good chance to make the BTCG and compete on a big stage. But, it's all about coaching.

The SEC East is a trainwreck right now, but that's mostly because Florida is in shambles. If that program were top-shelf, then Georgia slots in as #2 and South Carolina is usually solid and it seems like the Tennessee nightmare is almost over.

Gotta trust that a couple West teams make good hires. Minnesota, e.g., has. But, they're not going to carry the water. But having Kill get the Goofers up to a respectable program gives that division depth. They need Wisky/UNL to be strong.

6 teams could work, have 2 play-in games (on campus) a week before the Bowls, give #1 and#2 a bye.

                      • I think it comes down to players, too. The SEC lost some really good QBs and that position was average all year in that conference. LSU's QB situation was a disaster. Bo Wallace? Garbage. Arky's QB was mediocre at best. Sims was good but unreliable.

That, and the SEC doesn't play up-tempo, quarterback-friendly systems that turn the likes of Cardale Jones into decent players. And tempo partially negates talent disadvantages up front.

The SEC is still out-recruiting the shit out of everyone, but there are some teams out there that are can beat them, either with talent, scheme or both. It's goddamn silly to think they're going away.

Alabama is going to be really good next season provided they have a QB. But, there are some good teams outside of Alabama and Mississippi.

                        • I also gotta say -- two things that stood out for me yesterday were that both Michigan State and Ohio State took it in the chin and kept playing. I talked about MSU up-thread. OSU was down 21-6 and Cardale looked like, well, a third-string QB. They kept playing and grinding. They took Bama's best punch and hung around. When LSU whitewashed them in the 2nd Q in 2007, they were mentally defeated. Same in 2006 in the 2nd quarter. Things were definitely at a tipping point and they held on.

Say what you will about UFM, but the guy (and his staff) is really good.

                          • Bama couldn't close the deal even though OSU gave them the game on a platter several times in the 4th Qt.

I'm not saying all were undeserved, but sec got the one loss benefit of doubt

IMO... He sec is living off talent and not coaching. They lost a lot, but I'd also say other coaches get more out of what they have than some guys in the SEC
