Not sure I believe that. This is still Miss State and Starkville is a dump in a dumpy state. He is not going to maintain a top 10 team there. There's too much competition in the SEC West.

On a related note, there are some NCAA red flags with regard to Mullen and/or his staff. His staff was involved with Cam Newton. And they were put on probation another couple of years after that and an assistant given a show-cause. Making Miss State (and Ole Miss for that matter) a respectable program might not all be above the table.

Rich Rodriguez is a good football coach ....... In the PAC10. His offense is a much better fit there. I don't think it would ever be a good fit in the BIG the way he recruited.

I'm glad for him. I always liked the guy except for his crying.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

      • I think Michigan just gave up on RichRod too soon. Clearly he is better than Hoke.

Good point. And remember, Cam started at Florida when Mullen was an assistant to Urban. Some smoke there, no doubt, and of, course, Mullen learned everything he knows from Urban.

            No.

No way he was going to survive and thrive at M and in the Big Ten. His recruiting of guys that can really make a difference in football - lineman - sucked. You cannot play football in the Big Ten and win consistently without some beef upfront. He liked those little guys that are fast and the 3-4 defense.

Denard was terrific and so was the way he recruited receivers and slot guys for his offense. He's a good offensive coordinator, great, in fact. But everything else he did was beyond terrible.

Momentum was against him. The firing decision that Brandon made was not about giving up on him, it was about catering to the base that was going to fund Brandon's grand plans and I'm pretty certain he whipped up angry mobs of alumni, former players of all persuasion, and contributors that helped him make his case and green light the firing

Clearly, this has been proven to be true.

Mullen was starting to go rogue, which is why he was cast off from the House of Urban.

                          • If Mullen's doing it clean then holy fuck. Presumably he's playing by the rules there, just as he would at Michigan even though the rules are entirely different. I think for some candidates from the SEC that might be a red flag but not for all of them.

                              • He was mentioned when we hired Hoke, actually. Uneven trajectory since then, but hard to ignore this season.
