  • I think if PSU had said the NCAA has no authority to penalize them for this stuff, then they wouldn't have cooperated with any investigation. Remember, the NCAA has no subpoena power. People talk to the NCAA out of cooperative spirit.

What PSU would have had to have done is say this is a criminal and civil matter, not an NCAA matter -- and made mention about how egregious the behavior was and how PSU is cooperating with the authorities to make sure appropriate criminal justice is dispensed.

    • I agree -- that was outside the NCAA's jurisdiction, and the organization took the opportunity to look tough. Cynically, that's the right call for a group on the ropes as it is, because PSU was in a position to overlook some of those plain facts about matters of jurisdiction.

          • Last week the SEC had one compelling matchup going into the day. The P12 had 2 one-loss teams battling ranked teams in Arizona-UCLA and ASU-Utah. And, oh by the way, Stanford-Oregon.

Apparently Miss St-Arky (still waiting for that first conference win!), Georgia-Florida (crap on a fucking stick) and Auburn-Ole Miss (huge game) were worth over 3X the air time vs the P12.

            • This week it *SHOULD* be even with 2 B12 matchups, 1 B10 matchup, 2 P10 matchups (counting ND) and 1 SEC matchup that headline. The Mississippi schools play abominations. And so does Auburn, for that matter. If it's 2:1 or 3:1, there's really no other explanation. Occam's Razor.

And don't go to sleep on Vandy-Gators. Traditional rivalry!

                    • It was big news down here. I don't think Vandy gets much national play, though.

Well, no. 1st and 2nd tier B1G games go to ESPN.

                          • Here it is, they have controlling interest:

The Big Ten Network (BTN) is an American regional sports network that is owned as a joint venture between the Big Ten Conference (which owns 49% of the network) and the Fox Entertainment Group subsidiary of 21st Century Fox (which owns a controlling 51% interest), and is operated by Fox Sports.

                            • Someone needs to count up the minutes of Big Ten talk on 'Fox Sports-Upper Peninsula 1' or whatever and compare it to GameDay.

                              • I'll concede a significant B10 bias on Fox Sports Upper Peninsula-1 if you concede the obvious SEC bias on ESPN. Though, I reckon you sort of have with this the Fox Sports implied "everyone does it" sort of line.

Your ham-handed middle game disappoints Big Blue.
