  • Indeed it's a particularly competitive environment up there. Odd decision, without knowing exactly what he was thinking about it.

Auburn fans (and anyone who hates Ohio State) enjoyed Ohio State's loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten championship last night, foiling the Buckeyes' chance at a national championship. Others with a personal beef—such as, say, some of Meyer's former players and commits at Florida that remained while he left the college football world, only to return at Ohio State not even a year later—took joy in the loss.
Meanwhile, Urban is probably still chewing a slice of [ame="https://twitter.com/DaPatBrennan/statuses/409561084773691392"]Papa John's[/ame] that tastes like sadness and defeat.

I wouldn't call Stanford a school in the NW. And I think the atmosphere in Seattle is pretty similar to Boise. I wouldn't be surprised if that fed into his decision.

                          • Stanford isn't in the North West but the schools in the North West (Washington's, Oregon's) all recruit heavily in Northern California against Cal & Stanford. I can't see more than a couple of those schools in the top 10 at the same time...

Much like how I can't see 3 of Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and Northwestern being top 15 programs all at the same time.

                              • Interesting thread. UT does have a real issue with the B12. First, yeah, they fucked it up with a series of massively self-serving decisions. Now they're stuck with a conference with no brands. The post in there about marketing brands is dead on. That's why B10 fans intuitively know that Nebraska >>>>>>> Rutgers as an added, geography and markets be damned. Texas has no brands in the B12 other than OU. The B12 has a ton of seriously shitty brands in ISU, KSU, TT and TCU. Baylor, for the most part, is in that bucket, too, shiny new helments and all.

The B12 has 3 brands of real value. UT sports; OU football; KU hoops. They all know it. I still think Delaney wants to go to 16 and I still think those 3 commodities are high on his list. The question is whether they'll go down with the ship or not.

The B12 is dead or, at least, dying. The valuable brands SHOULD look for alternativies.

The ACC is now large enough that it can sustain a loss of a team or two. It will survive even if, e.g., Virginia takes the money and runs.
