  • CU Buffs player Bryce Givens arrested in Boulder robbery
Syracuse quarterback Jonathan Miller also arrested

Bryce Givens, 22, a former tackle for the University of Colorado football team who was suspended in January for vandalism, was arrested in a Boulder robbery case this week and won't be returning to the team.

Boulder police arrested Givens and Jonathan Miller, 20, who plays football for Syracuse University and was Givens' teammate at Mullen High School in Denver, on suspicion of punching and robbing a man early Wednesday morning.

The 21-year-old victim said he was walking home from downtown Boulder at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday when he was approached by two men near 13th Street and College Avenue. One of the men punched him in the face, he said. The victim told police the two men then took his cash and cell phone before running into a residence in the 900 block of College Avenue. He then called police from a nearby friend's house.

Police suspect that Miller was the one who threw the punch. He was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault, robbery and possession of a fake ID, while Givens was arrested on suspicion of robbery. Both are free on bond.

Givens was already suspended from the team and CU following an incident in January when he was caught on surveillance kicking car doors in a private parking garage in Denver, but he would have had a chance to play for the Buffs in 2012 if he had stayed out of trouble.

After CU's first day of practice Thursday, head coach Jon Embree said Givens would not be returning to the team.

“That ship has sailed,” Embree said. “It was a long, long, long, long shot from the beginning, but now that ship has sailed.”

Miller is a sophomore quarterback for Syracuse. He did not appear in any games in 2010.

Want to review Michigan's Crime Blotter over the past decade? We may have you beat in the NCAA stuff but UM has a fairly lengthy criminal roster

Sounds like the final point to work out is whether Texas A&M will begin play in the SEC in 2012 or 2013 #gigem http://ow.ly/5Z3hP

                  • Wow, the whole "Texas retains the rights to say who does or doesn't work on the network" clause is ridicuolous. So essentially, anyone we ever says ANYTHING bad about Texas on air will be immediately fired.

                    • Would it be an NCAA violation of some kind for the Longhorn network to broadcast a HS game of a player the Horns were pursuing but who had not yet committed?

Or, what about a .. "Hey Coach ... if you steer Johnny Shotgun-Arm to Austin, we'll make sure we put at least 2 of your games on the Longhorn Network" ...
