  • The BTN's recap show is really good. That network's one big screwup so far is hiring Gerry Dinardo. His commentary is worthless (although at least he isn't downright offensive to listen to).

    • Agree on Dinardo. I call him Gerry Donoshit.

Also, re CFB Gameday -- I don't like it. But I think it's so entrenched it would be tough to beat ratings wise, or even come close. I'd much rather watch a well-done preview show from a studio. But, I don't think a show like would top Gameday.

I do think a well-done Recap show could beat ESPN's unwatchable shit.

I'd love to see FOX take what I'll refer to as the "Jay Bilas" approach -- hire guys who know WTF they're talking about, can say it intelligently and with tact. The flames/trolling is unwatchable. I still hold out hope that modestly nuanced analysis has an audience in this country, a mountain of evidence to the contrary.

I think of this as MLB's Quick Pitch primetime studio show. It seems like when it comes to football, the meathead mentality overpowers all rational thought. ESPN basically communicates in grunts and hand gestures at this point.

          • It will be all about capturing market share which drives ad rates so it will be mass market drivel. Book it.

            • If Fox can in any way, be of assistance in ending the college football days of Brent Musberger and Lou Holtz, .. I'm all for it. I can almost tolerate Mark May hanging on, becuase once in a blue moon he has a rational thought.

Their stewardship of the BCS was an utter clusterfuck though. It was like watching a third-grade musical five nights in a row.

Now it's a clown show and I don't know anyone who makes it a point to tune into it. That could also just be because the internet makes a lot of the information redundant. Not to mention, Disney has absolutely destroyed the 12:00 time slot, which means that you can do chores around the house until 3:30 and not miss anything worth watching. The days of sitting down in front of the TV at 11:00 to catch the noon game between Miami and Florida State are long gone. I don't know if that's me getting old or the show itself becoming irrelevant. One thing that has changed is that Corso, while never the greatest analyst, used to make some pretty good comments before his headgear gimmick became his thing.
Outside the ESPY's this year to see if Jack won, it has been a long time since I watched a non live event on ESPN.... outside of the TV being on at a bar. I think Fox can agressively go after the BIG and PAC and do well. I am very tired of the same SEC stories over and over again. It's not about CF on Saturdays. IT IS about certain teams.

I also think ESPN's drop in ratings is a good sign that people have grown tired of their approach

Sometimes I wonder if the BTN hired DiNardo as the BTN's version of Corso the Clown, only to find out he wasn't as funny. Then they hired Glen Mason for the same role with only slightly better success in clownism. And now they've somewhat stuck with DiNardo, he has sorta emerged as one of their most recognizable faces. And while I agree that his commentary more often than not is lame, his personality comes off as somewhat likeable, and when combined with the rest of their crew, his flaws end up somewhat hidden.

Holtz, on the other hand? CUT HIM LOOSE, ESPN!!!

I can't believe anybody with half a brain would waste their time watching those two pompous windbags scream at each other.

ESPN loses any remaining sliver of credibility when they promote that "First Take" show as "debate"

                              • TV producers care a lot more about commentary that is entertaining than being actual informative. I think too often they cater to the lowest common denominator.
