  • They'll just get smarter about the way they cheat like the SEC.

    • Maybe, WM.

I think if you target the coaching staffs for compliance (not enforcement of the numbingly complex and stupid rules involving players), hold them accountable, you can reduce the misbehavior.

Both the Supply and the Demand sides need to be addressed. Coaching staffs need to be punished, and kids need to start losing eligibility. As it stands now, the recruits themselves have very little skin in the game and that needs to change IMO. Trying to police the supply side is clearly not working.

Declaring a kid ineligible is well within the NCAA?s established mandate...they just don?t do it. If they start, and a few high-profile recruits lose years of eligibility, it?ll start sending a message that taking 10 grand isn't worth the risk of perhaps losing out on a chance at an NFL payday.

        • I think that's a good idea, but it wouldn't help much with the guys who talk 5 years after they've left the program.

                  • Remember last year when Texas A&M claimed all of those fake championships on the outside of Kyle Field? Now Ole Miss.

What's up with the SEC teams and fake titles?

                      • It was a bitter defeat indeed, losing the 1997 Big 12 championship to Texas A&M despite outscoring them by 39 points.

                        • The Paterno family is going after the NCAA...

The estate of the late Penn State coach Joe Paterno and several university trustees and former players plan to sue the NCAA over the landmark sanctions against the university for the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.

                            • Gordon Gee has to be on of the biggest douch bags to sit as a university president.

I would consider him an embarrassment to M if he were president. I doubt any osu folks here would disagree with the observation from us that he does more harm to osu than good.

He might be right as rain but what a stupid comment to make. Rates right up there with his comment about the worrisome problem of having tressel fire him.

                              • The Paterenno suit is going to be interesting. I have no doubt that the NCAA exceeded its authority in levying the PSU sanctions by failing to follow there own procedures.

The complication is that the U and the BOR voluntarily agreed to comply with them. The out come is not going to be decided by the facts of the matter but rather on technicalities.

I can understand the Paterno's wish to save Joe's rep. Maybe he did get a hatchet job. Still, there is no escaping the reality that he had some level of complicity in Sandusky's criminal activity. We can argue degree but not the fact that he knew, had a duty to report and left that up to someone else. Not good enough.
