  • Recruiting is a huge advantage to the warm weather schools...but it is no guarantee. Much more to the equation. How do you explain Texas' suckitude this year with all the resources they have? Mack Brown...that's how. Their coaching staff is horrible...he loses good assistants all the time and Mack hires bad coaches. Coaching is bigger than recruiting in my opinion...look at Kansas State...they have no more talent than Nebraska or Michigan yet they are going to be #2 in the BCS today and look to me like a lock to go undefeated and play in the title game. You wanna win? Follow the Bill Snyder blueprint...which he has said was the Tom Osborne blueprint...pisses me off when I look at the Wildcats because they are Nebraska from 15 years ago.

Yes recruiting matters...but coaching is bigger. Bama has both. KSU has decent recruiting and incredible coaching. Nebraska has good recruiting and marginal coaching. Michigan has better recruiting than Nebraska and i thought they had better coaching but now it may be a push...

    • Can't disagree.

Coaching probably has a slightly greater contribution to the success of the on field product but not much. Still it's a factor.

Despite the Neb win, the Pellini (and staff) on field product was pretty weak. Everyone will be praising him, but that was not a great performance. Too many fundamental break downs on offense and defense ...... and the way you play defense against a Freshman QB, is pretty straight forward. I understand your frustration as I know you do mine.

      • Yeppers. Once again we almost double the yardage of our foe and squeak out a win. Getting old. Glad NU won but frankly given DR's injury NU should have won big. There were a few bad calls that kept NU's offense down or helped M keep a drive alive but nonetheless the penalties and dumb playcalling by NU is disturbing. MSU will beat us so we will need to win out after that and pray UFM beats M.

        • Just one place I disagree with you Wiz.

If it comes down to ND and K-State to face Alabama, it will be ND.

          100% mortal lock.

          • Not if you look at the numbers though liney...and USC losing yesterday kills ND...USC will lose again...to Oregon...so they will be dropping ND's SOS bigtime. Had USC won yesterday I think ND probably controlled it's own destiny.

Now...what if KSU and ND both run the table and LSU beats Bama...or Bama loses the CCG...

            Notre Dame vs. KSU

            Ugh

            • Sounds like Denard has had this injury since the Purdue game, explains quite a bit about the play calling if true... I really don't think you can evaluate Borges fairly till he's got an accurate QB along with capable talent around him.

              • That would be yet another MNC game that I would not watch.

BS ........ how do you explain Denard's pretty effective passing when he was in. Like the deep ball to Roundtree. A perfectly thrown pass and catch that was incorrectly ruled incomplete by the idiots in the replay booth. What's new there.

But fundamentally, Borges has simplified formations and motions to the extent that every one on defense playing against him has the play book. That's not a sign of an OC that needs time to be evaluated AFTER Morris shows up.

This is not a praise Rodriguez point, I had my issues with him. But he is the quintessential example of an OC that puts enough subtle changes in his spread game to keep defenses guessing. I don't understand why this can't be done by Al Borges except that he seems to think like that guy who was so f'ing proud of his "schematic advantage" crap. These two have two things in common. Arrogance and ......well, you know.

Just like the one that was called an interception.

Uh oh. I don't recall Devin Gardner being accurate when he's been in.

Does anyone know what Dilfer's problem with Morris was at the Elite 11?
