  • I'd be far more worried about the loaner cars and the equipment staff not noticing all the jerseys disappearing than the kids selling some autographs.

I'd be even more worried about a coach who covered it all up, lied about it to keep his players eligible and then lied again a few more times for good measure.

      • Yeah, that has pretty much already has been proven, I was thinking of just the allegations... Its still debatable whether they are in the clear of all the alleged discount car deals...

Failure to monitor the athletic equipment and failure to monitor the players vehicles (loaners) should get OSU in pretty significant trouble, if OSU staff had any connections to the enablers (those loaning vehicles or discounted vehicles) then OSU is in more trouble than USC.

          • Oregon is going to get slapped hard. They don't seemed to be cooperating.

That Oregon was heading for trouble has been whispered about for months now...but this is a KABOOM! kinda article.

Oregon coaching staff and compliance staff were activiely involved in paying a guy in Texas to funnel kids to their school under the guise of "recruiting services". When it became clear this becoming known, Oregon directed Lyles to quickly forward along some profiling BS to make it look like just information had been purchased.

However, it appears Lyles merely copy/pasted recruiting from some website it passed it along to Oregon with a $25,000 bill attached. And from what I heard, one of the kids he "profiled" is dead.

              • I would add that if the allegations about Oregon are shown to be true, and Yahoo seems to have done a ton of investigative work against them, that this scandal would be worse than either USC or OSU

                • I want all these teams to get slapped hard. Current SOP is to cheat your ass off to be successful because even if you get caught, the punishment will be slap on the wrist relative to all the success. Exhibit A being ohio's decade of dominance in the Big Ten. I'd venture a guess that 90% of a team's fans would trade a few sanctions and lost schollies to have a run like ohio did under Tressel. Ditto for USC and to a lesser extent Auburn and Oregon. Vacated wins are OK for the official record book but you can't ever take away the experience and memories - or replace lost opportunities. Exhibit B, MSU, who lost out on the chance to experience a Rose Bowl trip because of Tressel's blatant cheating. Not that I lose sleep over Sparty getting a raw deal but they make a good example in this case.

                    • My first reaction about the Oregon situation was that it probably wouldn't amount to much because I didn't think there was any way that they would be stupid enough to pay that guy $25K ON THE BOOKS and NOT make sure they had something they could document that they received for that amount.
What's the difference between an OSU grad and a park bench? A park bench can support a family of four.

                      • What is most baffling about Oregon is the published scouting profiles the alleged or former scout sent to Oregon. $25k for Lache Seastruck is a bargain though.

The problem with this, DSL, is that the emerging Oregon scandal increases the pressure for the NCAA to do something that will have an impact and ultimately make breaking the rules not worth the risk ....... as it clearly is now.

Emmert has been talking about this for months both publically and privately. Now its time to act.

Who's next on the chopping block my friend?

                          ........ off with their heads.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

UNC and Oregon getting in trouble makes it more likely that the NCAA will go hard on OSU? Uh-huh...

                            • No ...... its the public perception of corruption in CFB among elite programs which include those we are talking about here, and that CFB is out of control that is going to put pressure on the NCAA and nudge them toward tougher sanctions in general.

It is simply fortuitous (or unfortunate depending on which side of the Northern KY, Michigan boarder you hail from) that osu is going to be the first program among shameless, rule breaking peers, to go before the COI in August and, in October, find out how long the osu football program is going to be F'ed.

                              • By the way, the same guy (Charles Robinson) who broke the Oregon story and earlier broke some of the stuff on Tressel had said earlier this year that he would have three scandal stories over the summer. Two registered as an "8" and the last would be a "10". Some are speculating it could be Texas and that this Lyles guy opens a can of worms for them too.
