I don't know if there is an actual name for it. What it does is this: If you are fast forwarding during playback of a recording and hit the play button, it "jumps back" 30 seconds before playing at regular speed. So if you're FFing thru commercials and hit the play button as soon as you see your program begin again, it will jump back 20-30 seconds (depending on your FF speed) and you'll end up watching the last commercial. It's a real pain in the ass for football with all the stoppage time. It probably adds about a half hour to the process of watching a recorded game if you're trying to zip through it as fast as you can. Damn it, I'm a grown man and can operate a remote control. I don't need some built in system for morons to automatically adjust for people who don't know when to hit the play button.

The fast forward issue assumes you're going to be a late hitting play, basically you need to wait a second before hitting resume/play with directv's dvr.

Yeah, that feature is a pain in the ass. Or, I wish that they would at least make the jump back smaller. My wife laughs at me when I watch hockey now, because you have to fast forward past the faceoff to watch the faceoff. But sometimes somebody scores a goal right after the faceoff, so you spoil it for yourself. I have to look away for a second before pressing "play" when I watch hockey.

I think that they would let him get away with that even with the tighter standards of today. I could be wrong though. The type of stuff that I have seen get flagged is high-stepping/Deion Sanders type crap.
