  • Naw, I like the kissed and made up scenario better---juicier plot for when a movie is made

    • Was made years ago, called Deliverance.

      • Same script, different team ......

We heard the same lines from Rodriguez during his first spring practice pressers at M.

He should have stayed at WVU.

I'll give him a 90% probability that he'll spend 5 years mired at the bottom of the PAC10 with the entertainment value of his team wearing off quickly and ASU officials firing him at the expiration of his first contract.

Where have I seen this movie?
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

        • I'll bet ASU has no power to fire him and that he'll do quite well in the PAC 12. At least after USC, Oregon and Stanford.

          • I expect him to get Arizona solidly into the middle third of the Pac 12. He may occasionally challenge for a league title, but USC and Oregon have nothing to be concerned about.

            • With BC and Miami gone, RR enjoyed a little success in The Big East. However the Big Ten crushed him and I expect the Pac12 to do the same. They've got a few teams that run much better high-octane offenses in addition to fielding an actual defense.

              • & Virginia Tech...

RR with his unique offense could/should allow Arizona to be a middle-of-the pack Pac 12 school. Winning 6-8 games a year, playing in some bowl games is a decent level of success for the Arizona football program.

                • Dunno 'bout that .......

Maybe I'm sketical because I got burned so badly supporting him. But, I've seen this kind of thing before in different venues. Guy succeeeds because he finds a perfect set of circumstances for himself. When the circumstances change, because he's not as good as everyone thought and because he can't adapt and succeed in the new surroundings, he fails.

I think Rodriguez demonstrated some of that at M. If I'm reading Three and Out correctly, Rodriguez was stubborn and arrogant. That will kill you in most settings. So will an inflated perception of yourself and what you can get done. That he was very much that at M came out in the book, I thought.

                  • Yeah. Then again he went and got back the DC he worked well with before. It's probably reasonable to say that his stubbornness is going to hold him back but not on every single thing. He's going to have learned at least SOME lessons and will act accordingly, and he presumably won't have the undermining-from-within problem.

                    • I agree with you, Hack. I hope he does well. I just have my doubts and biases.

                      • He may not have the undermining from within, but he does have some of the same incompetent coordinators, especially on D.

Of course, perhaps Casteel is the type of DC that those assistants can rally around and RR can just leave alone like he prefers to do. I will watch Arizona football with far more interest than I ever have, that's for sure.

I have to admit I wouldn't mind seeing him do well, even though he scuttled our beloved program, he seemed like a genuinely invested football coach and person. Of course, I'd prefer if he'd just allow himself to move on from the M debacle, but as most articles seem to show, he hasn't. Whether or not that comes from the incessant questions from the media or just his own arrogant pride, it's ridiculous how many comments he still makes about "not finishing what we started". He just didn't get that M was going downhill fast under his leadership.

                        • Largely due to my fanaticism and pettiness, I don't wish him well.

                          • I don't blame RR for coveting the "Crown Jewel" of college football but I do blame Martin for blowing the most important charge of his employment....one incompetent SOB in IMO. He had a year or two to replace Carr and failed miserably.

                            • Well this conversation has the air of familiarity, but in the context of how well Martin did hiring Beeline, IMO blame for the RR hire must be shared with others.
