    • Fairly reliable evidence that Kelly is staying put:

Oregon's Chip Kelly has decided not to accept the Bucs' head coaching job.

The deal was reportedly "done" early Sunday evening, but Kelly had a change of heart just before midnight. "His heart is with college football and Oregon and he's no longer being considered," Bucs GM Mark Dominik said Monday, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Kelly had also been linked to the Colts. The Bucs, who have interviewed eight other candidates to replace Raheem Morris, will now head back to square one.

      • His heart is with Oregon...or he had a moment of clarity in regards to him taking his gimmicky offense to the pros.

        • Yeah, that could be ugly trying to run the read-option spread in the pros. Seems like you could get your QB killed pretty easily.

            • The real answer is Tampa Bay wasn't willing to pay enough.
I am not Chip Kelly fan, but it will be interesting to see 'Zona, Wazzu, and Oregon play each other over the next few years. Each team might have about 20 possessions per game.

              • I suppose we'll fine out how strong Kelly's "heart" is if/when Oregon gets a Notice of Allegations.

He must feel good enough about things to stick around. At least for now.

                  • Sec recruiting...the Vols are 10 over 85 right now with 21 commits and they are still working on 5 OLs, 2 safeties, 2 RBs and 2 WRs with only 4 spots left. Of course, it is the SEC so.....

                    • If anybody in the SEC ought to get a pass on oversigning this year, it's Tennessee.

                      • why? Is it to level out the playing field for them, that they haven't cheated as effectively as most other SEC teams?

SEC = See, Everyone Cheats !

                        • Tennessee's roster has been gutted by two coaching transitions in the last four years-- they had about a dozen players leave in Kiffin's only season, and they've had serious attrition issues during Derek Dooley's tenure. In fact, Oversigning.com actually made the case a couple of years ago that some of Tennessee's lack of success on the field over the previous few seasons could be attributed to staying within the usual signing limits.

                          • Bottom line .....

The 85 scholarship limit imposed by the NCAA does more damage than it has done good. The rule of unintended consequences applies. Might have been a good idea when it was conceived on the basis of allowing more programs to compete for elite athletes (the leveling the playing field argument).

But, what it has also done (aside from situations like UT's and the SEC's mentioned in the article above) is complicate the process for coaching staffs of obtaining and maintaining roster depth. It also has the potential of screwing over the athlete in ways that I don't think were ever contemplated (early release).

One of the main purposes of the web site oversigning.com is to force the NCAA's hand on the issues involved in scholarship limits - and they are many and complex, leading to my view that the NCAA is not going to deal with them in a meaningful way any time soon.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                            • I'm not so sure. That website and the oversigning issue have gradually become an issue. I wouldn't be shocked if the NCAA move the germane date for 85 to NLOID day. That would be a step in the right direction, IMO. A very big step.

                              • Mainstream media has even been bringing up this issue, I see the NCAA (or conferences) doing something about it in the next couple years.
