You're exactly right, Hanni. I'm certainly not going to argue that M/DB did anything competent during those six weeks, though, they did eventually find a pretty good fit.

What if Meyer was told by the NCAA right after he was hired, that he could not have any official functions with the team? IOW, no recruiting calls, no OV's, no letters, nothing, until after OlieO's bowl game (i.e. current football season) was complete.
Would he have been able to secure Pittman and Dunn anyway?
I'm just saying that its certainly an advantage to the program, for them to have one full time coach devoted totally to getting the team ready for its bowl game, while the other full time coach devotes his time to recruiting. Other teams coaches are having to divide up their time carefully, with recruiting, game prep, and everything else that coaches do.
You have to admit, with the way he's been able to sway some "leaning" recruits, its been an advantage."in order to lead America you must love America"

Having UFM is an advantage. If they couldn't have obtained the waiver, what they would have done is put UFM on the staff--send one of the assistants on his way--and still have Fickell coach the bowl game. UFM, Fickell, Drayton and Vrabel would have been out on the road (the latter three being the likely holdovers). Results would have been the *same.* EXCEPT, UFM could have been actively involved watching his new team practice, especially during the "dead" period leading up to the bowl.
So, yeah, it's a huge advantage having UFM recruit for you. He's a topshelf recruiter. I think it would have happened regardless. There was no way OSU wasn't going to have UFM recruiting from the get-go. Period.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Certainly. The crooks down their know their business, unlike the clown running UM's athletic department. It IS an advantage, and though perhaps it's not right, Michigan knew the rules and should have acted accordingly itself instead of whining about it in press releases.

Oh, geeeeze .....
M fans need to let go of the CF that was the Rodriguez firing. It's done. Get on with it and fix the damage done to the roster/recruiting. The right guy appears to be in place to do that.
I care about one thing going forward. M goes to c-bus in November 2012 and ass-jacks turbin's boys just like LC did in the Citrus 2008 ...... and this was with the Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow.
Bring it.
The Game is back.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

I agree, Jeff. This thing is back on, as far as I'm concerned. Let Meyer try to "lock down" ohio. It ain't happening. We're still going to get excellent players from there who want to be Michigan Wolverines. We have a lot of alumni living in ohio many of whom are former players, who will continue to help guide young folk to Ann Arbor.
Do I see Meyer as a formidable foe? Absolutely. He's a very good recruiter, and when he has good talent, he's a very good game day coach. But I also see chinks in his armor, and I believe the man can be beaten both in recruiting and on the field. He's not some "superman" that is going to destroy everything in his path ... as many Michigan fans unfortunately see him...
I say bring him and the schmucknuts on. Lets do this. I like where Michigan stands right now, and I like how the future looks. We're in this thing for the long haul, and I ain't taking a back seat to any schmucknut."in order to lead America you must love America"

UFM will be extremely difficult to contend with in Ohio with kids he wants. I think there's a credible chance -- not probable, but credible -- that you'll find this out with Dymonte Thomas. However, as I noted, he won't cast as wide a net in Ohio as Tressel did. Guys like, e.g., DeVeon Smith, Taco Charlton, Jake Butt and more -- guys who are good, solid recruits -- will be on the table for OoS schools to fight over. I think Hoke and M is in a position to do very well in those battles.
But make no mistake, Ohio State is going to be very, very good. Hoke better keep thing moving in the right direction or he'll fall behind.
It's been ages since M won in Columbus. We'll see what they can do next year. I promise you, Ohio State won't be 6-5 suckbutts coming into The Game next season. Heh.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Yeah but you'll still be suckbutts. No matter what you do, remember: you are inferior human beings to those up here. This last 12 months proved it. It will be humiliating when you lose to us even though everyone knows you have a leg up due to your lack of integrity and honur.

Meh. It's only pissing on your parade if you're scared of a really good Bobcats squad.
Like I said, there's not much Hoke or M can do to stop other teams from being really good. Worry about making M as good as he can, and let the chips fall where they may.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
