I mean, it’s awful in a number of respects, but, yeah — straight 1 through 12 instead of conference champs would address most of it.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

Given the 12 team field they had to work with, they did a great job matchup-wise. If Bama was playing at PSU, it would have been a superb bracket. There were previous kicks that had Indiana playing at Georgia. That would have sucked but IU at ND suddenly seems really cool. I’m pumped for the whole thing.
Given that there’s only 2 real conferences, they need to get rid of the “top 4 conference champs” rule. The Big 12 is a glorified mid-major and the ACC isn’t far behind.

The auto-byes fuck it up. It’d be great without.
Eh, whatever. Ohio State has an impossible gauntlet but they’ll lose to the Val’s so it’s hard to care that much,Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

The 12 best are not in the playoffs...perhaps the 12 most "deserving" based on the selection format yes...but Alabama would be a double digit favorite over SMU, Boise or ASU on a neutral field. So they need to discuss for the future...do we want the best...or the most deserving? Perhaps they need to do away with CCG's and auto bids...and just take the highest 12 ranked teams by the selection committee....I guarantee you the SEC office is going to push for changes...Shut the fuck up Donny!

There was talk after the PAC imploded that the number of auto bids needed to be dropped from 5 to 4. When this 12 team format was adopted It was assumed you'd have the 5 power conference champions with the top 4 of those receiving the top 4 seeds and first round bye. It was just too sudden of a change to rework it for the 2024 season but I think it will definitely be addressed going forward. If Alabama hadn't shit the bed at either of Vandy or Oklahoma, there would have been 4 teams each from the Big Ten and SEC. That will probably be typical going forward.
