From The Athletic:
Sluka’s name, image and likeness representative, Marcus Cromartie, told ESPN that Sluka was “verbally promised” at least $100,000 by an assistant coach before committing to the school this offseason, but has only received a $3,000 relocation stipend.
Sluka’s father, Bob, told The Athletic that the money was negotiated with two agents on the phone in February.
“We did not ask for anything extra,” Bob Sluka said. “Essentially they refused, (coach) Barry Odom refused to give us the money. We tried everything. We’d take payments. Anything. And they just kept deferring it and deferring it, and to this day, we do not know why.”

And how do you stop Texas or Ohio from paying players millions? Salary cap? How could that be enforced?

In the meantime they need to stop unlimited access to the portal. IMO it should be that when you sign a LOI, you are committed to play for that team for at least 2 years. If you decide to sit out, that's on you. You get nothing. No NIL, no nothing as long as you are taking yourself out. Then after 2 seasons, you can portal ONE time for the remainder of your college career. The fifth year senior transfer should remain intact."in order to lead America you must love America"

The LOI has to be able to mean something for the school, as well as the player. The school needs to know that once a kid has signed, he's with them for a time they can count on. But this would also give the player an option to portal out after two seasons, and maybe even make himself available to the NFL draft.
Something has to be done. There has to be boundaries for both the players and the schools. And a truly independent commission regulating all this."in order to lead America you must love America"

You are talking about a contract...which does that make the player an employee? Does employment law start coming into play with this? Right now what you have in "name" is NIL...name image and likeness not "pay for play" (but of course that is what it defacto is). The schools of course have reservations about making these kids "employees" for a number of reasons. Will be interesting how that shakes out. The portal can be fixed very easily...just limit each player to one portal move during their career. But the courts could say if they are "employees" how can you restrict an worker like this.
I think we need to find Marty and get his investigator buddy to enlighten us.
Shut the fuck up Donny!
