Like I've always told my crews over the years...an IW almost always really fucks one team...so keep the whistle out of yer mouth...

I observe officials now for the state association...and so many basketball refs who get into football want to keep the damn whistle in their mouths...drives me bonkers...

Keep the whistle in your hand. If necessary, buy a finger whistle. Basketball and hockey officials are the worst. Hockey guys think they can blow a play dead with just that little "twirp" that they use in hockey games.

We had a hockey official join our crew, and he tried using his hockey whistle. Our chief said not to show up at another game without a Fox 40.

Blocked FG's are probably the biggest source of IW's...because we get conditioned to blow the whistle (at the NFHS level anyway) as soon as the kick occurs...because the play is dead in HS...it's live in NCAA and NFL but NFHS blows it dead as soon as it is kicked...thus on FG attempts when I was a NFHS white hat I would yell to my crew (or radio now days) "LIVE BALL GUYS"...

I have seen games decided by an IW on a FG...state title games even...

That's why we torment any guy who blows an IW on the way home...and he must buy the beer...

The NCAA needs to clean this shit up....starting with appointing a Commish for the sport...

Not sure who to believe here. The player says he was never paid what was agreed to but this guy from 247 sports says he was. It's possible he's running cover for some entity that dropped the ball on getting the kid paid. Either way, it's a pretty bad look for everyone. Players should be able to capitalize on their football ability but it's hurting the sport I love which sucks. There has to be a way to make it work.
