Officiating question: I thought the horsecollar rule was intended to prevent guys from launching themselves at ballcarriers from behind and pulling them down by their shoulder pads, as Roy Williams used to do. Is it meant to prevent any reaching inside the collar? That's how it's being called now, it seems.

The horsecollar rule is, (at least in HS rules) that you cannot grab the inside of the shirt or shoulder pad and make the tackle. That's front, side, back, ... all included. And, for the flag to be thrown, the TACKLE has to be completed by grabbing the collar.
In other words, you can grab the shirt collar or the shoulder pad collar, but if you let go, and make the tackle by grabbing the ball carrier another way, then there is no flag.
I think that's where the NCAA rule is different. I believe in the NCAA, you cannot grab the collar AT ALL. I wish Wiz were here to clarify, but that's how I understand it."in order to lead America you must love America"
