  • So, after looking at the site, the On3 NIL value is the NIL Valuation which is algorithm designed to value players without tracking ACTUAL NIL DEALS! https://www.on3.com/nil/news/about-o...er-post-value/

That's what I thought because there's no one out there with, e.g., info that says Keon Keeley signed with UAT for $276K. That's just not available. That's what On3 considers his NIL valuation, not what he actually signed for.

So, like I said...we can absolutely get rid of the utterly untrue word "fact" in the NIL assertions based on On3. They're not facts. They're projections.

    • Ohio State is gonna be on the wrong end of a couple Oregon $$$$$$$$$ deals. Unfortunately. Such is life. Still a really good class. CRD is doing a pretty good job of utilizing the recruiting machine UFM built.

      • I questioned Geezer thinking he could find out the amounts players, recruits or transfers, were getting and then ranking which teams were leading in this department. No way. The likelihood theses valuations by On3 are wildly incorrect is about 90% plus. One who puts stock in this stuff as a way to see whose ahead and whose behind is nuts.

Mike pointed out there was disparity in recruiting before NIL and remain after it. Is there some shaping? Yes but you deal with it .... for now, and start advocating for a regulated process in the current circumstances.

Frankly if the pay for play stuff weeds out teams that ought to be playing in the B League, so be it. I'm fine with tiering and would add a way to move into the A League as well as get bumped down.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

        • I've said this before, but the "it just means more" idea in the SEC is real, IMO. So, IMO, well-heeled boosters at M, OSU, Notre Dame, Penn State, Wisconsin, etc are far more likely to spend millions on improving the institutions as opposed to spending millions on something as ethereal as the whims of an 18-yr old kid. Again, there's no contract here. They can leave in a year. Whereas the donation to build a library or whatever....that's far more permanent.

IMO, certain schools have boosters far more inclined to pony up BIG for CFB (and, to a lesser extent and with few schools, CBB). I could be entirely wrong on this, but I really believe that strongly.

That said, I'm still very unsure that the current model is at all sustainable for even certain southern schools. You're talking millions every year. For almost any booster that's eventually going to add up.

Yeah, I mean, this just moves schools into a superconference. The more it becomes a business, the more you begin to treat your associations as a business. There's no getting around that. Especialy when you are entirely motivated to regulate the business. You almost need the superconference self-governance.

            • I mean, right now in every professional sport, tampering is illegal. And those sports really try to enforce that. In CFB, it's obvious that schools are recruiting kids at other schools and probably doing so with money offers. I say that because there are a ton of kids that hit the portal and know EXACTLY where they're going.

              • The #1 and 2 qb's go to U.S.C. and UCLA. Welcome. That's what offensive minded teams do.

                  • Its going to take a few years but this NIL stuff will reach an equilibrium. There are certain dynamics that are still relevant. Every top prospect wants to go to the NFL, but that means playing time you can still only field 11 players. Texas A&M found that out and have a torrent of players in the portal. This year it was Oregon and Miami being the big spenders,.let's see how they do. MSU had a pretty good class considering Oregon and Miami bigfooted them on a few recruits.

                    • It might reach equilibrium, but it’s going to be a really shitty one if the NCAA allows it to remain a free agent free-for-all.

How much do you figure Arch Manning got from Texas?

                        • I dunno. His family has money. His priority is getting to the league. I wouldn’t have him anywhere in the top 10 or 15.

                          • He doesn’t need the money, and he certainly wasn’t recruited to Texas because of a NIL, but the Mannings are very financially savvy and legal millions will not be turned down. I expect him to NIL his way into Dr. Pepper and car commercials (etc) in short order. I think he will break the deals of Bryce, CJ, Smith-Njigba, and Caleb in short order.
