I was wrong once. I thought Mike Dubose had turned the corner after the 1999 SECCG. Bama was 10-2, killed Florida to win the SEC, and then proceeded to go 3-9 over his final 12 games. Players opted out, transferred, or retired, and the NCAA sent us a 32-page NOA.

I was trying to think of a bigger opening week game than Notre Dame and you might have to go all the way back to 1986 and the Kickoff Classic with Alabama. We played Miami in 1999 but neither team was really top shelf. 2015 opened at Virginia Tech but they aren't the same prestige as Alabama or Notre Dame.
