UCLA has started to be the dominant team in Socal, and Riley is being brought in to stop that. He will start locking down not only southern california, but probably most of the state.
Chip Kelly has been having some modest success at UCLA. They just beat USC on the field again this year.
Riley will change that too.
USC can get ready for a lot of offense.. but defense will be an afterthought.

When was the last time that anyone actually paid attention to either USC or UCLA? or anybody, besides Oregon (and occasionally Washington) in the Pac12? it looks like that whole Conference has slid into the ocean.

G-Tech deserves that after parting ways with Paul Johnson!
Riley needs to nail the DC hire. Pete Carroll's USC teams were great on both offense and defense. Elite on defense a few times in the later years.
That's held back Riley at Oklahoma. Elite offenses. Terrible to mediocre defenses.
Will Muschamp? Marcus Freeman? ... is Jim Knowles great now? Pay attention to USC's DC hire news....AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill

From this article:
There was something just a little bit different from the get-go. Michigan fans are known for their wind-battered panic mode, their instant turtling at the onset of sports traumas after enduring such a disproportionate load of them in the past. Life has taught Wolverines to flinch at the first sign of football trouble, lament what has not even gone wrong yet, and bury their emotions in a basketball program they somewhat care about, because those losses hurt less.
Sounds about right.
