That could be true. That lopsided of a score suggests they def gave up. I had Army in this all the way, though.
But MTSU was a 4-8 shitball team and was 101st in rush defense last year. Stockstill has a horrible record as a dog, especially as a road dog. Finally, and probably most importantly, this game was scheduled as a late pickup. Option ball is hard to prepare for with sufficient time to prepare. A short schedule makes it even harder. I bet this game, and my confidence level was about as high as it can get in a game 1 situation.

Explains the shitty defense but the offense looked like they didn't want to be there. With all of the uncertainty around the season it looks like team psychology might be a bigger factor than usual. MTSU looked as uninterested as I have ever seen a team. That O'Hara kid looks like he was point shaving. The clock management at the end of the fist half is something that I have literally never seen before.
They were 84th in scoring offense last year. They were very much a shitball team last year and nothing has changed. That said, the final score was shocking.

If Army would have had Michigan's 2nd string FG kicker last year they would have won the game with Michigan. Michigan had more than 9 months to prepare for the Cadets and pretty much lost the game anyway. They were bailed out by Army's freshman kicker.
When that option is run the right way, with the guys who understand it well, its hard to beat. If I were coaching HS ball, that would be my offense of choice.
