  • Maybe one would be different, but no more, and people would be bitching that we needed to go to a Committee - just like March Madness!
The difference being that the No. 4 team in the CFP actually has a chance to win the CFP (and has won), while the 11 seed or 12 seed that sneaks in has virtually no chance and has never won.

Back in the day when it was 32 there were famous omissions that could have easily won the NCAA (Maryland in 1974 being the most notable). But at 64/68 with at-larges that just doesn't happen.

In any event, CFB has the worst postseason of any sport. As I said, doesn't mean the CFP isn't less awful than that which came before.

    • It's really too bad that we don't have the BCS this year...Bama and Clemson...which it's going to be anyway...but the Domers would have been on the outside looking in and screaming like a little girl...had Marty been around it would have been a meltdown of hack proportions...

      • College football postseason is the ultimate player participation trophy, always has been. The first couple years of the college football playoff were good about the notion if you win the conference you were in, as years have gone by that has lessened. Witness the ridiculous politicking for a two loss Georgia team.

The NCAA tournament in contrast with the conference tournaments has a way for almost every team to get in and theoretically win it all. Of course as talent points out, the the double digit seeds have virtually no chance of winning it all, some can and have got into the Final Four. We'll never know this to be the case but NC State was a bubble team in 83 and may not have gotten in the tournament had they not won the ACC tournament.

        • Disagree with most of you on the lesser bowls. My wife is an App State grad. She is excited about the New Orleans Bowl as are her friends. We are going to go to the game and have a good time in New Orleans with some friends. I am sure the city is looking forward to an influx of people pumping money into their economy too. The only disappointment is that UAB chose to go to Boca Raton rather than New Orleans. Well, that and Apps coach, Scott Satterfield leaving for Louisville. (of course, he went from 700K a year in the Sunbelt to 3.25 M and a chance to compete in a power 5 conference)

          • Yeah. They were conference champs and took the bid to go to south Fla instead of NO. It would have been a good match up with UAB and App State, plus there are a lot of Spanish Fort kids playing for UAB and I would like to have seen them play

If Connie Mack hadn't been an owner he would've been dumped as manager faaaaar earlier. He blew up his last great team in the early 30's and never recovered.
