    • With Michigan football and CFB in general, being the focus of my sports interests, I didn't follow the NFL very closely with occasional interest in the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons. As CFB spirals into chaos, interest in following it as closely as I have before this season has declined. Contributing is the state of Michigan football ....... a program that very predictably, from all accounts, shouldn't be where it is following the 2023 season culminating in a NC.

I was in the stadium for M's last two games. The game experience has been in decline since Dave Brandon became AD. Costs of attending a game have soared, When I can watch in the comfort of my home instead of suffering blazing heat or rain to see the game live, one has to question why I would do that going forward.

The team's performance on the field of play has been well below historical standards and that's being generous. Serious recaps of the offense's and defense's performance (mgo UFRs and PFF grading) identify just how far the M football program has tanked and that brings me to the point of this post:

I watched the Atlanta Falcons defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last night in OT. What was so enjoyable about this game was watching really good QB'ing on both sides (Mayfield and Cousins), great offensive line play in pass-pro and the run game and play calling that actually made sense. I'm on the verge of ditching CFB because the team I'm inclined to cheer for looks like a version (name one) of an FCS program with a disorganized coaching staff that has no idea of what they are doing. Contributing, in no small amount, to my failing interest in CFB is the failure to regulate NIL and the chaos in managing a team's roster created by the poorly regulated portal.

Admittedly, CFB is in a period of radical change. Things may or may not sort themselves out and return a generally beloved fan-friendly sport to ground. But that's not going to happen any time soon and I won't be around long enough to waste my interests in sports on the college game when the quality of NFL teams that I might get behind and follow is so high.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

      • It's never coming back Jeff. The genie is out of the bottle.

Teams are already adding surcharges to tickets to fund NIL accounts. With NIL and unlimited transfers college football is well on its way to becoming just another professional league

        • Pretty soon, that little 19" space that Michigan Stadium calls a "seat" is going to cost $1000 per game. The wine and cheese seats are already there.

I don't think this is what Fritz had in mind.

Not like we new it through probably somewhere in the early 2000s. Probably 2007 to be exact, yes. Until then it was a good experience. Carr ushered in M's long walk in the forest until Harbaugh signed in 2015 and there were some disappointing seasons for him but his last three were great and flipping the bird to the NCAA for burger and sign gate added some spice..... but also forced his departure back to the NFL. 2021 ushered in NIL which remains, to the league's and players detriment, only loosely regulated. The transfer portal which is tied to NIL in it's detrimental impact is a mess making it hard for teams to manage rosters and build team cohesiveness.

Something is going to emerge going forward with super conferences and potentially, if the P4 conference administors and member school's presidents get their acts together, two revenue sharing leagues with an administrative league modeled after the NFL. Best case, the NCAA would no longer set rules for these two leagues, share in broadcast revenues or have any authority over P4 CFB teams. Don't care what happens to the G5 and the NCAA can keep basketball and all the non-rev sports. There's a pathway to that emerging but it's going to take a while to get there.

perfect time for them to go to a national broadcast after the chiefs game

not that it mattered but as blatant a face mask in front of a ref as ive seen in the vikings game thursday night which wound up costing vikings 2 points and any chance they had at winning. opening a can of worms when u start reviewing calls on the field but that call was egregious-
