The Lions looked very SOL-ish on that last drive before the half.

I'm a closet Lions fan. That goes back to the 60s. Their 30+ year struggles have been well documented - perhaps until the last three years the most mismanaged professional sports team in the US. A lot of their success this year is due to Jared Goff. Every one that follows the NFL knows his unique QB story involving Mathew Stafford.
This win tonight for the Detroit Lions is big deal for long suffering but very loyal Lions fans that stuck with the team and bought tickets to see them lose mostly for many years. They need one more win against SF to get to the super bowl. If they do, it will cap an amazing season that's brought joy to the city of Detroit and it's suburbs.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

buffalo KC was another classic game--don't know what Josh Allen has to do to beat KC in the playoffs--one of the longest highest passes I've seen was perfect to Diggs who dropped it
KC pretty much dominated statistically but shot themselves in the foot when they fumbled out of the endzone
Love to see a KC Detroit SB unfortunately it will be the opposite

I didn't watch it and I'm glad I didn't......the Lion's collapse after building a 17 point lead v. SF was brutal. A sad end, a gut punch - to a reinvigorating season for the Lions and their fans.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. The wheels came off in spectacular fashion. The key sequence went like this:
Lions hold SF to a FG to open the 3rd quarter making the score 24-10 Lions. Detroit then moves the ball down field with relative ease but stall out on the SF 28. Campbell eschews the FG try for a 4th and 2 and the WR drops the ball. SF then launches a deep shot that goes through the Lions' defender's hands, bounces off his facemask up into the air, and is snagged by SF at the Lions 5 yard line. TD SF makes the score 24-17. The NEXT PLAY for the Lions is a fumble by their rookie RB and SF recovers at the Detroit 25. TD ensues. Tie game 24-24 in a span of 8 minutes.
And from there it got worse.
Edit: The Lions had a chance late but Campbell opted for a 4th and 3 pass at the 30 rather than attempt a 447 yard FG to tie the game with 7:32 remaining. The play failed and SF drove down for the dagger TD.Last edited by Mike; January 29, 2024, 09:25 AM.

There was also another drop on 3rd and 12 that forced a punt and then the ensuing punt should have been downed at the one, but the Lions guy stepped into the endzone with the ball. The Niners went down and kicked the go-ahead FG.
It was an absolutely catastrophic sequence of events where if they make just one play they PROBABLY win.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.
