Rules are rules. That was one shitty and far-fetched way to lose a football game, but the Lions specialize in precisely those kinds of losses.

Proven once again today: The running game means nothing. Every championship game comes down to passing. New England won because they had to pass more at the end, and they were effective. I'm not sure if they would have won if they were ahead going into 4th quarter-- New England only took the lead when they abandoned the running game.

But, generally, yes, the NFL plays a pass heavy game and the Patriots in particular because ..... well, Tom Brady.
My sense is that with the HS athletes getting much bigger and much more skilled, you'll see CFB teams, while still using that extra runner with the dual threat QB, look more and more like NFL offenses, i.e., pass heavy.
I rarely watch the NFL during the regular season but I do watch the post season games. As much as in the college game, in the NFL post season, it's key guys making big plays that turns a ball game. That's exactly how the Pats shut down the Jags possession game in the second half - with the Jaguars controlling it and ahead big in the first half and well into the third quarter.
With Gronkowski out, Danny Amendola stepped up and made some huge plays. And then there's Brady. Over my lifetime, I don't think I've seen a more dominant QB in big games.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. Thing is, if an NFL offense loses run/pass balance then the opposing D can feel free to put their pass rush specialists in the field more often and play schemes that don't have to gameplan for rushes....recipe for disaster.
