  • I think people misunderestimate how good a coach tressel was because of tresselball and his cheating.

He was very good at making good players great. He didn't have star studded recruiting classes like USC or ND (although he got his share of studs). But year after year he turned out teams that were better than everyone they played.

Personally I think trading Tressel for Meyer is a net loss for OSU. but I guess we will see.

That's kind of the way I see it too. Urban built two quality teams basically from scratch. He'll be working with more talent at osu to start with than he had at either UF or Utah. But I don't see him as effective at UF or Utah as jt was at osu ....... he doesn't have jt's connections in the state although some of those seem now to be suspect. Doesn't matter though because Urban without those connections is not going to be as effective as jt was.

The big unknown to me surrounds the question, "what kind of offense is he going to run and who is he going to get to run it?"

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

          • There is nobody more suited to stopping Meyer's offense than Greg Mattison, who went against it in practice at Florida.

Does that mean there's no one better suited to beating Mattison's defense than Coach Meyer, who's been around it for years?

              • The only question with Meyer is whether you'll get the Urban Meyer of 2008 and not the burned out Urban Meyer of 2010.
Hanni, there's no doubt what Meyer is coming back. The question is for how long Ohio State will get the Meyer of 2001-09. He should have took a break in 2009 like we he wanted to.

Even if OSU gets the Meyer of 2001-09 for a prolonged stretch, it is unlikely he'll match the success of Coach Tressel. Frankly, no one OSU could hire is *likely* to match that level of success.

                • Honestly, I look for Hoke/Meyer to go at it like Bo and Woody did. I don't look for one to dominate the other. What was it, .. Woody was 5-4-1 against Bo? That's about as even as you can get, although we did win that '73 game ... friggin' Big Ten AD's....

Anyway ... I think it will be fairly even between the two.

                  • *If* Hoke gets M back into the top tier of CFB, it will be even. Top-shelf programs generally are. I *think* M is on the way back, though I also *think* next year is going to be bumpy with a significantly more difficult schedule, and year after a bit worse. But I also *think* a 10-2 start and solid recruiting more than gets him over the hump to "his" teams.

                    • Next year is definitely a problem with the schedule. I don't see how we can expect any better than 8-4 on the season. Shoot, we'll be lucky to come out of September with a .500 record. The road schedule is absolutely brutal.

                      I don't see where 2013 is worse than 2012 tho ...

                      • I think the 2013 team will be talented, but young, Liney. And M won't have an experienced QB, so I'm expecting a drop-off. I think 2014, when this class are in the third year and the QB is in his 2nd, is when Hoke will have *his* team. JMO.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy Saturday.

I'm supposed to smoke a big cigar that was sent to me by a good friend, if we win Saturday. I haven't smoked in years, but I'll enjoy that one if we can get the win. I'll have to take a picture or two if that happens ...
