  • I'm pleased about two things ......

osu lost ... at home. Good.

The PSU players won a big game. These are kids who had nothing to do with the despicable behavior of Joe Paterno, Jerry Sandusky, Mike McQueary, Director Curley and the rest directly involved in the terrible mess they created for Penn State.

Good on the kids who played hard.

Don't know all the in's and out's of the condition, but a good friend of mine recently had some sort of surgery (at UM) that apparently kills or destroys whatever part of the workings of the heart that cause this condition.

      • Love the shirt, JD. I'll buy one for sure.

Re this Meyer thing, well, it certainly feels unjust for OSU to luck into an elite coach after what they just did, but, well, it is what it is. He'll make OSU better than any of the other coaching options that might be available, presumably. The silver lining will be shoving in the face of the idiocratic class in A2 that discussion about whether a spread can work in the B10.

        • Don't think UM will run a RR/CK spread.

It'll look more like Auburn w/Newton under center.

Mller's a good fit in an O like that. Key will be who's his OC.

I might see what it costs just to get 3 or 4 made. I have a feeling it could be pricy, though.

              • In town on game day, going through the parking lots, it sells for sure. But that's an effort.

                • Yeah? How many of those stupid T-shirts street vendors sell on the walk to the stadium have you bought? I don't think I have EVER seen anyone wearing one, and I've been going to the games for 43 years! (not to say JD I think you're shirt is "stupid" It's really clever. I just don't think street hawking on game day sells much)

                  • No, I have a friend whose family owns a T-shirt shop on Main Street and I was going to go through them as a place to sell them but after talking costs over with them, it sounded like I would need to invest a whole lot more money than it was worth. They were selling a bunch of similar themed, but not as creative (IMO) shirts during the Art Fair so I thought it could be doable but those must have been produced by a bigger company than JD Inc. (or Ink?) is/would've been.

I wanted to get them out there in early September but that got held up as well.

In the end, maybe it just becomes a fun graphic that I get to share with you folks and a few friends.

I've got a few. I like to buy homegrown tshirts as they are usually more clever than the boring crap that the major companies around town provide, plus they are the product of a person and his/her individual effort and I don't have to be a walking advertisement for somebody's mediocre ability to come up with a funny shirt.

                        • This falls under the I-don’t-start-rumors-I-only-spread-them category.

Being of limited mobility this season, I have been relegated to using the football shuttle bus to get me from downtown to the games. Last Saturday, I chatted with a retired Nebraska grad who flew up from Florida to watch the game. He asked how I felt about the super-strong possibility of Urban Meyer becoming the osu coach. I told him I didn’t think it would happen, primarily because of the health concerns and that being a somewhat responsible person, Meyer would take care of himself like Schembechler did post football. He snorted and laughed at my assessment of Meyer. This is why he thinks that Meyer is going to osu.

Yes Urban has health issues, primarily an irregular heart and high blood pressure. He also suffers from Jimmy Johnson Syndrome, spending 16-18 hours a day (7 days a week) at the office at the expense of his family time. Well, Mrs Meyer had determined that ol’ Urban has been less than faithful in his marital vows. Not pounding other coach’s wives ala Les Miles, but simply sampling the rather nubile co-ed population that Florida has to offer. A temptation he failed to resist as opposed to falling in love with another person as sometimes happens in life. This explains the initial retirement-no retirement-retirement flip flop and the parting statements that not only mentioned health but the need to spend more time with family. Mrs Meyer gave him an ultimatum and second chance – football or family, and Urban a painful (but correct) choice.

Now enter the roiling osu situation. A ‘name’ school that has no real difficulties in recruiting good talent, in need of a big time coach. And willing to pay top dollar to land such a coach. Well, in order to even consider such a job, Urban needs the blessing of Mrs Meyer. osu is both geographically and culturally miles apart from the Florida universe. Most importantly, osu women are rather bovine in nature compared to Florida and the temptation to stray is much less. Having been a ‘good boy’ for a couple of years and having made serious effort to repair his marriage, Urban may have convinced the missus that he has earned a second chance in the coaching arena. It is Mrs Meyer, not Urban, that osu’s hopes rest upon. Based on that always accurate news medium (“friend of a friend”, just like the internet), the Floridian Cornhusker thinks that Urban is headed to osu, rather than a warm weather return to football.

Urban: Honey, I want to coach again. Pretty please, I’ll be good this time, I promise.

                          Mrs Meyer: No.

Urban: But its in shit-hole ohio and Columbus is an absolute cultural and intellectual wasteland. I can’t get into trouble there.

                          Mrs Meyer: Still no.

Urban: But the women are ugly and the men are all attracted to each other. I won’t stray. Ever again. Cross my irregular heart.

Mrs Meyer: Speaking of that, what about your heart murmurs?

Urban: I’ll be close to the UM Hospital where I can be medivac’ed if need be.

Mrs Meyer: How good is UM in treating gunshot wounds? Just in case you decide to cheat again?

Urban: They must be good, it is UM after all.

Mrs Meyer: That’s not what I meant. You even look at another woman and I’ll shoot you in your sleep.

                          Urban: Deal.

                              • I heard the same stories about Rich Rodriguez five years ago-- supposedly Rich Rodriguez cheated with a WVU cheerleader. This has become a common vague charge made on message boards against rival coaches. Until someone actually comes forward with a specific allegation, I'm not going to put any stock in this sort of crap.
