Looking back at the way Woody left and comparing it to current events, I say it was no big deal. In fact, it's a hell of a way to go out - fighting. I also loved that he wouldn't apologize. I'm sure Charlie Bauman didn't care. Give no quarter, ask no quarter. He was a tough SOB, as can be seen above. The rivalry isn't the same without him and Bo roaming the sidelines.

Agree Woody went out better than Paterno. But Woody deserved to go out on the shoulders of his players, after a big bowl win. Instead, he was hustled off between cops, making sure that angry fans didn't get to him first. Then, the day after, when given the opportunity to retire gracefully, he refused to do so, even when urged by his good friend Bo Schembechler.

Also, to share information from OSU insider forums, I'm now far more than cautiously optimistic that Urban Meyer will coach Ohio State (and somewhate optimistic that Coach Fickell will be on the staff). Frankly, coaching speculation is far more fun than speculating on how Ohio State may beat Penn State, 2-0.

I can understand and to a certain extent, appreciate the OSU infatuation with all things Michigan but frankly Woody is too controversial, courtesy of Tressel, Gee & Smith.

The negative connotations of such folly would have long-lasting ramifications.

Well I guess I was wrong. I didn't realize they had a coach of the year trophy named after Bo and Woody. I honestly haven't looked at most of the stuipid naming shit the B1G did after the whole Legends and Leaders idiocy.

I'm surprised that Hayes' incident was forgiven, but it was over 30 years ago and it isn't like he hurt the player.

To Ohio State matters, it's going to be Urban. I also think it's very likely Fickell remains on the staff. I would guess it's announced after the B10 CCG, but, barring major catastrophe, I think it's done. I also think that this will be an effective way to turn the page -- an effective compass with which OSU can extricate itself from the "wilderness."

How are Urban's connections with HS coaches in ohio? I know they're good with the current coaching staff but Urban's going to be the face of osu and if fickell is the only guy staying, I'm not sure he'll be the panacea that osu fans think he's going to be. Any thought's on who stays on the staff and who goes (besides fickell)? Who will he bring in ...... and importantly does smith survive this or is there a package deal going down here with Urban and a new AD.?
