  • Clearly a well-reasoned gamut on the part of osu officials.

No clue whether it will fly or not.

If you can count on precedent (and you usually can't), the NCAA will tack something on.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the penalties osu is imposing deal only with what is contained in the original Letter of Allegations. So far, nothing has come of the suggestions that a large quantity of osu football equipment, that should have been accounted for wasn't and instead was swapped for benefits. Neither has there been any further indication that the NCAA is going to pursue the number of cars being driven by osu players that didn't match the car that the player had registered with the university or failed to register.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

    • Lying about the Tat 5 easily calls for more punishment than this. Playing five ineligible players for a whole season and later lying about multiple times it is a serious offense.

      • I've read that the gamut being played is one to stem the tide in the recruiting calamity hoping recruits will bite on the line ..... we're done, we've been penalized, the end.

Unless you've been following this closely, and I seriously doubt HS recruits and their handlers are, it would be easy for osu to pull the wool over the eyes of the less informed. Kiffin tried this at USC and it appeared that it worked to a certain extent.

        Just more scumbaggery.

        • Look, the Bucks are going to get away with it. Delany will go to the mat to save the Big10 flagship. Most of this is all decided behind the scenes ... these COI meetings, etc are a big dog and pony show.

Most of the administration here at USC knew what was coming before the penalties were handed out. Haden and others just put on a show and cried indignation.

The NCAA is too cowardly to oppose the Big10 commish. O-state gets a slap on the wrist ... but the tarnish to their reputation, the giant asterisk on this past decade, and the damage to the 'Vest's legacy ... it doesn't matter what DSL says, this hurts and is great!

Everytime the Buckfans throw up the 9*-1, we can laugh in their scarlet, grey, and teary faces.

Indeed, OP, knocking off Tressell is the biggest penalty possible to OSU.

            • Nobody gives a fuck about an asterisk. Vacating victories is a complete non-punishment.

agree... nobody really cares about that. if this ends up being it, the NCAA will pubically be saying "go for it".

You'd be stupid not to cheat and pay players

                  EFZ.

This is a huge turning point for the NCAA. OSU is showing once again that they are going to bend over backwards to avoid self-enforcement. Either the NCAA shows that they are going to take rules enforcement seriously, or they give everyone a green light to cheat. I'm not seeing a middle ground.

                    • ....... back to a discussion that appeared in another thread, money and power rules.

I agree that Delaney may be involved in working behind the scene to minimize penalties to osu.

Its unfortunate that business as usual will be what most programs with the alumni and fan base to do so will return to if osu gets off easy. Pay for play will continue in the many forms that it has existed for quite I while.

I've thought for a few weeks now, after looking at the implications of harsh penalties for programs like osu, Auburn and Oregon, that this was going to be a tough nut to crack. There are just too many high rollers involved and too much money being made for folk like us to hope that CFB is going to be played fairly with everyone on a level playing field because the NCAA says that's how things will be.

They're not going to say that ..... or at least it would seem that way at the moment.

Therein lies the problem. I have some rather draconian solutions, but none will fly so I might as well STFU.

osu shows its true colors once again 'allowing' Saint Jim to retire instead of resign. This basically provides Saint Jim with a $50,000 paycheck, no $250,000 fine, and LIFETIME healthcare benefits for himself and his immediate family (as a state employee retiree).

osu has just flipped the bird to the NCAA, once again.

                          Exactly, and completely hilarious!

Pryor was among the original group of players who was suspended for the first five games of this year. But he left OSU to try his luck in the NFL soon after Tressel quit, and now an unidentified player has been added to the list.
