  • From a poster on MGoBlog:

Andy Staples (SI) on Rivals Radio was just interviewed and said he has read Dohrmann's article and that it covers allegations over multiple years and that Compliance is potentially implicated. In his words, Compliance "should have known."

Can anyone say "Lack of institutional control"?

    • Not yet we can't. It's still very preliminary. How much is hearsay and how much is provable?

      • Considering the dude writing the article got a Pulitzer for his takedown of Minnesota basketball, I'm more inclined to believe him than anyone at OSU.

If it's all unprovable heresay, then why did Tressel resign this morning?

        • I'm not saying it all is or it all isn't. You are taking the one event and stretching it in to a vast conspiracy. It may well prove to be just that, or it may turn out to be deniable. We will see in time.

Mitch Albom is an award winning sports journalist. How much do you believe him? (Especially about final four games?)

Albom is a puff-piece writer, not an investigative journalist. Investigative journalists don't generally get awards for making shit up.

If this guy was making it all up, OSU would have stuck to their guns and sued him for libel or slander or whatever you sue media for when they make shit up about you. When you resign before an article comes out without even responding to it, there is a reason.

I'd only add one word to that statement.

"Michigan values integrity not JUST winning mere football games."
I agree. The University of Michigan values integrity above winning, and would never hide blatant violations for years at a time, only coming forward once the whole scheme collapsed and they had no choice but to come clean.

                Sincerely,

Michigan is no better, and no worse, than any other major program in college athletics.

Ok, so we've got someone's interpretations of a writer's potential implication with his own summary without personally interviewing any of the sources or allowing the potential accused to address charges?

By all means lets hang em quick!

Listen Jamie, I understand your intense desire to ejaculate all day in a blue and gold spew-a-thon over the elimination of a foe who has owned U-M on the field. I just think it would be prudent to wait till some facts are in. Especially from someone a little more removed from the story than a person working for the same magazine as the author.

                  • Unless we find 'more' about OSU, agree with the above punishments; 5 scholarships a year reduction, 1 year postseason ban (both bowl & CCG), vacated 2010 season; lessened because JT ran away... If the story that comes out in SI or ESPN has a lot of meat, I expect USC level punishments or a lil' more severe.

                        • Players react to the Tressel news. Many cite him being a terrific man. Note the cowardly Wolverines at the bottom, excited and thrilled that someone who has tormented them is now gone. Only Mike Hart offers up a rueful thought, that Michigan only once could beat him on the field. And Ray Small continues to be a schmuck

As you'd expect, Twitter is buzzing with reaction to the resignation of Jim Tressel as Ohio State's coach earlier Monday.Ohio State held a team meeting Monday morning to announce the change, but several current and former players have tweeted about Tressel's departure.

Yeah, I'm sure the article is a complete nothingburger and that Tressel resigned for no reason, no reason at all.

It's like you standing outside of a house that's engulfed in flames, the fire department has already quit and gone home, and you're saying "Wait, we aren't SURE the house is going to burn down yet".

                            • I suspect your correct Dr. about JT being forced out, when the article gets published we'll know for sure and why. I suspect the article is very damaging to JT and follows his messy career at Youngstown and his connections to several boosters who were close to some of his eventual star players.

                              • I DO agree that it will be interesting if the article points the finger mostly at Tressel or whether there are implications towards the whole program. The more of this you can pin directly on Tressel and not on OSU at large, the better for the program.
