Here's the number one reason Michigan fans hated and feared Jim Tressel: he beat Michigan again and again and again. And did it with a caveman offense.
Well, you got scoreboard. Congratulations.
NOW, .. the billing statement has arrived. Its time to pay up.
From what I understand, Tressel will still have to appear before the NCAA to give his account of the events that led to all this. Not sure how that "helps" with the NCAA. It may take away one avenue of punishment (your coach must resign), but I doubt that its going to bring a lighter punishment simply because he walked away.Last edited by lineygoblue; May 30, 2011, 09:15 AM."in order to lead America you must love America"

"Lloyd Carr could've kept his job for life if he wanted it...the fans adored him"...please. Most of this board was extremely weary of Carr by 2007. Don't revise history. And don't tell me Michigan wouldn't replace a Mother Theresa if she ain't winning.

LOL!!!!
Bu-bye! Let the gnashing of scarlet and grey teeth begin!!
The great, great man Lloyd Carr was forced out at Michigan. Why? Because he wasn't winning enough and was losing to Ohio STate consistently.
DSL, kudos to you for sticking around here during these dark days for osu, unlike other osu posters. But your statement here is nonsensical sour grapes. Lloyd Carr retired because he lost the bellyfire to coach as he battles the onset of Parkinson's disease. Forced out? Get a grip on reality.
F**k osu.Last edited by Ghengis Jon; May 30, 2011, 09:23 AM.“Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.” - Groucho Marx

And no matter how much you try to deny the truth, Lloyd Carr was forced out.
Fact of the matter is, Carr could still be coaching today, had he wanted to. And there wasn't anyone who could have stopped him. Bill Martin, Mary Sue Coleman, Dave Brandon, ... nobody.
He would have only been a figurehead by now, but he'd still be the man if he wanted to.
He wanted to leave, and he did, of his own choosing.Last edited by lineygoblue; May 30, 2011, 09:20 AM."in order to lead America you must love America"

I think Smith is next .......
Yes, this is going to help osu by sparing the NCAA from issuing a Show Cause Letter to tressel. That was part of the deal and has been an on-going negotiation between the NCAA and osu since the Letter of Allegations.
Very early on it was offered that the NCAA wanted osu to do the heavy lifting in exchange for lighter penalties ..... most specifically penalties that would hurt osu going forward (post season bans, scholarship reductions). I think they got what they were looking for.
I still don't think more penalties are out of the question yet. tressmess is now on even footing .... almost .... with USC. I still think tressel's lying gave the program a competitive advantage in 2010. The existence of benefits given to improve the likelihood that osu would attract top talent during tressel's reign, while unproven, seem pretty certain. tress built a recruiting machine; osu SHOULD be punished going forward for creating that.
Vacated wins in 2010? Yes.
Scholarship reductions? Likely but not certain.
Post season bans? No.Last edited by Jeff Buchanan; May 30, 2011, 09:21 AM.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Keep in mind that USC has publicly stated that they are going to monitor this and make sure that everyone else gets treated fairly. In other words, if they got hit with the NCAA hammer, they are going to push to ensure that OSU does too. I don't think that Tressel's resignation makes a difference at all.
