  • Tressell could be found with a body in his freezer and his fingerprints on the gun and Strangelove would have some excuse for why he really didn't do it.

    • I don't know what goes down in the states, but in Canada the government frowns upon being screwed out of potential tax money.

          • Here is an excerpt from dennis dodd of cbs sports. I don't know the crediblity of him, but the comment that gene smith threw his compliance department under the bus leads me to believe there maybe some inhouse fighting at o-lie-o. Which may explain the latest car dealership investigation.

That's bad enough. What a lot of folks have forgotten is the beginning of this case. Part of the reason those Ohio State players were allowed to play in the Sugar Bowl was they "did not receive adequate rules education during the time period the violations occurred," according to the NCAA. Once they got that rules education, another game was added (for a total of five) to the players' suspensions that take effect this season.

So if you're like me, you're wondering how an athletic and compliance department that didn't educate its players on an extra benefit rule that is considered common sense in the industry, didn't get cited further by the NCAA. Ohio State AD Gene Smith threw his compliance department under the bus back in December saying the nine-member staff was "complicit" in the violations because they did not make the extra benefits rule clear to players. We can argue why Ohio State got a break for its players when it is assumed that everyone knows, or should know, you can't sell your memorabilia. The point now is, why didn't Ohio State at least get "failure to monitor" when the NOA was delivered last week?

CBS Sports features live scoring, news, stats, and player info for NFL football, MLB baseball, NBA basketball, NHL hockey, college basketball and football.

And what does Tressel have to do with the car dealership stuff? His name hasn't even come up

And are the sanctimonious Wolverines quite positive their beloved drunk-driving athletes aren't getting any special wink-wink discounts at Ann Arbor businesses?

He's paid big bucks to run one of the biggest football programs in the country, with truthfulness and integrity. He's supposed to know what is going on, or at least have people who REPORT to him what is going on, in the football program. That's his job. If his players are walking a tightrope with NCAA rules regarding vehicles, he ought to be investigating to make sure nobody on his team is breaking the rules. With the doubts now cast on the veracity of Coach Tressel, I doubt if anyone can trust what he says he may or may not know about his players' automobiles.

I don't think that Daryl Stonum could walk into any business in Ann Arbor today, and receive special treatment of any kind. Even Blimpy Burger would tell him to "show me the money"...

                      • This!

                        LMAO.

I cannot think of a time in the last 10 years I have been happier.

Now, if Hoke can just mange a win over the buckeyes in AA on November 26th, Things will be looking even rosier.

A blow out win? I'll allow Linesman to run through the streets of AA naked.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

LOL! Case in point. See no evil, hear no evil huh?

Gee, I wonder what violations got Youngstown State in trouble under Tressel? Oh yeah, that's right, he steered players to a guy who gave them cars and cash, and then denied that he knew anything about it.

What a shock that the EXACT SAME SCENARIO is playing out at Ohio State?

Tressel has been dirty from day one. He just knows how to keep his hands LOOKING clean. At least, until someone made the mistake of creating a paper (email) trail.

Youngstown is where it all began for Jim Tressel and Maurice Clarett.

                          • The reality here is that the 'Vest is incredibly smart and has proven to be made of Teflon. If it wasn't for the fact that the Tattoo parlor owner was under federal investigation, none of this comes out and Tressel continues to operate free and clear.

Although I have little doubt that this car dealer stuff is shady, the fact that this was already "investigated" by the NCAA at the time of original MoC allegations (something that The Talent used to point out repeatedly) makes me thing Tressel has this one contained. Unless there is State of Ohio fraud (i.e. sales records falsified, etc.) that would allow an investigation with subpoena power, nothing is going to come of these additional allegations. Tressel is too smart, and the dealers and other Buckeye enables providing illegal benefits would never admit it and allow harm to come to their precious Bucks.

                            • Apparently both Buford and Deibler have cars from that dealership as well.

Is $$$eye basketball going down (again) too?
